What is the EtronX?
The fastest, most accurate ignition system ever developed.
The firearms and ammunition of the future are here now. Our revolutionary EtronX™ System is the most significant advancement in rifle and ammunition performance since smokeless powder. For the first time, cased centerfire cartridges are fired by a completely non-mechanical system that ignites primers by means of an electrical pulse. Ignition is virtually instantaneous. And the result is accuracy many never thought possible.
It will improve your shooting in an instant. (Okay, .0000027 seconds, but who's counting?)
Compare the lock-time difference between an EtronX rifle and a conventional bolt-action centerfire rifle.
Here's how the Model 700™ EtronX™ works: The electronic fire control has no moving parts other than the trigger. No sear to be released. No firing pin to strike the primer. Instead, an internal electrical circuit sends a charge through the system to our new electrically responsive primer. Closing the bolt on the cartridge establishes contact between the firing pin and the primer. When the trigger is pulled, the electronic circuit sends an electrical pulse through the firing pin directly to the primer. This all happens in less than the blink of an eye. Ignition is even faster, with near zero lock time (.0000027 seconds, actually), which virtually eliminates the effects of barrel movement after pulling the trigger. In fact, the bullet exits the barrel of the Model 700 EtronX before a mechanical firing pin could even hit the primer in a conventional rifle. The system also creates an exceptionally crisp trigger pull with 36% less travel than standard triggers.
Of course, just as soon as those remarkable features begin to sink in, it gets even better: This entire ultra-advanced system is all powered by a single, replaceable nine-volt battery, located in the rifle's butt stock. What's more, a unique light-emitting diode on top of the grip indicates complete system status, including whether the rifle is in "FIRE" or "SAFE" mode. Or if a cartridge has been chambered. Or if the battery is low. An additional safety feature — a key switch located in the bottom of the pistol grip — must first be turned "ON" to enable the electronic system. Without turning the system on, the rifle cannot be fired. In keeping with at least some tradition, the Model 700 EtronX rifle retains all the other classic aspects of our famous Model 700 bolt-action rifle. It includes the same features as the revered Model 700 VS SF with a stainless-steel action, 26" fluted barrel, black synthetic stock and full-length aluminum bedding block. It is currently available chambered for .220 Swift, .22-250 Remington and .243 Win.
System-Matched EtronX™ Ammunition
To complement our groundbreaking EtronX rifles, Remington‚ has developed an equally advanced line of system-matched centerfire ammunition. This line includes five highly accurate, flat-shooting centerfire loadings: our Premier‚ Varmint in .22-250; Premier Varmint in .220 Swift (both with 50-grain Hornady V-Max™ bullets); and our Premier Ballistic Tip‚ in .243 Win. with a 90-grain Nosler‚ Ballistic Tip bullet. New for 2001 are our Premier Partition‚ in .22-250 with 55-grain Nosler Partition bullet and our Core-Lokt‚ Pointed Soft Point in .243 with 100-grain bullet. The design and construction of these cartridges is identical to standard centerfire ammunition. But with one significant exception: They utilize our electrically ignited EtronX primers — containing a patented electrically conductive primer mix specially formulated to ignite reliably and evenly from the electrical pulse. Combined with the near-zero locktime of the Model 700 EtronX rifle, they promise even tighter accuracy than previously obtainable from over-the-counter rifles and ammunition. For those who reload their centerfire ammunition, EtronX primers are also available as components. Because the EtronX primer is carefully calibrated to duplicate the performance of our standard primer, cartridges can be loaded with the same amount and type of powder as they would for a mechanical firing system. Therefore, shooters will be able to reload EtronX ammunition by following the same published loading data that they have been using for cartridges of the same caliber and bullet weight.
