Yes, this the non-preparedness related board.
Can anyone please explain to me the current increase in the nasal piercing trend? Not only do I fail to possess any desire to inflict such a thing upon myself, but I don't see any reason anyone would do so to themselves.
While I have no desire to get a tattoo, at least I see the reason why [some] people do. Nasal piercings, however, are completely beyond me.

Is it just nasal piercings you're confused about or all face piercings?
Tattoos and piercings are usually countercultural. To be successful things need to move forward constantly. Your very reaction is pretty much the exact reason it's done.
I'm personally a huge fan of piercings and find them very attractive. My wife has her tongue, labret, an industrial bar and multiple single hole piercings in her ears. Definitely not done yet either!
If you haven't see them yet, google dimple piercings... Can look very nice if done by a skilled piercer but I'm sure you'll be horrified.
I don't personally like the 'stretcher' rings but I can see how its just a natural progression of the body mod culture. People always modified their bodies to differentiate their group and I don't ever see that changing.

No, it's just nasal piercing that gets me. I can't help but think of the snot problems that could arise.

I have the nasal piercing I am sure which is the spot of concern.. the septum. I've had it for over 7 years and I've also dealt with some incredibly rude older people to my face say horrible things. I don't let those things get to me, and you know what my parents have always said about piercings? Unlike tattoos, piercings are easily removable. Zero snot problems (lol), zero nose problems in general. I have had many facial and body piercings and do enjoy them. I acknowledge people not liking them, but hopefully still have respect enough to not question my decisions on my body and my piercings

That explains a lot. I'd always assumed it to not only be painful (especially when blowing ones nose), but I've seen a couple of folks with infected nasal piercings (which I'd put down to the difficulty in maintaining hygiene.

it takes maybe a week after you have the piercing done for it to heal. Lots of cleaning for the first week to avoid infection and general cleaning afterwards. Just like someone would treat ear piercings. No pain once it is healed. It's not difficult to clean at all. Infection can be from poor hygiene, or your body simply rejecting the piercing and not wanting to comfortably heal around the jewellery.

Subjectivity, aka people do whatever they want with their own body and others like it or not. The difference [assuming I've got the right one in mind] is people can fake them quite easily and I would suspect that there's plenty of people doing just that, which could be your observation there.

Showing my inner age and conservative side, but I find all piercings including earrings revolting. No offence to those who have them, but personally those and tats I find totally unattractive Like if the world's hottest woman came up to me and said she will do "anything" I want, if she had tats, piercings, a big nose or was taller then me, I would turn her down lol. Now that's out of the way, has anyone else noticed the huge Trent for young girls to get large tats? There is this 3rd apprentice at tafe with us at the moment, and she has tats all up her legs and arms, and she is only 19!

The thing is that I'm not offended by tattoos or piercings - I just don't see the point (although yes, I'm curious to understand what others do get out of it). Sure, if there was a tattoo/piercing of significant personal meaning to be had I'd consider it. But I've never found such a thing for myself. I have seen women with tattoos and some piercings that are excellent, and on many occasions I've seen such things enhance their beauty. It's the motivation that I'd like to understand.
As long as it doesn't harm me or my family, do what you want.

I believe everyone is allowed opinions, things that they do and do not like. But I do hope that you do not automatically judge someone or think badly because of some piercings. The best thing is, the day I decide to take my piercings out, it's as simple as that, take them out. No laser removal no pain no extra costs lol.

I don't automatically judge on what someone has on their bodies, as long as it's tasteful. I just think it's wrong for such young kids these days going for full sleeve/leg/back tatts

I am older rand for me it looks like crap! As a RN I have seen many idiots with infections in puncture sites and partial removal of infected ear lobes and cartilage in ears. To each their own, but it does not float my boat! Just my opinion.

I found girls with full back tat super sexy. Not a fan of hand, neck anf face tat. Have ink on both arms myself. As for drilling holes in the body and stickinh a piece of metal in.... well I had my eyebrow, ears and left arm done. Really liked them but got very difficult when I started to wear blue uniform and pistol, too much effort to pull them off and on, and I work for food manufacturers now, gottea take them off too. The worse thing is martial art, forgot to take off the one in the arm off and got hit. Blood everywhere! So I like them but not the best thing for survival.

I was once rolling with a guy in jiu jitsu and he suddenly suddenly screaming. Turns out his nipple ring got caught in his gi, or my grips, or something... you can imagine what happened after that. :\

Yeah percing is like high heels for girls, very pleasant to look at but useless in life and death situations. As mush as I like ink, it does make it hard to stay grey

I think it's almost a natural progression in our affluent society, that people, especially the young, have the money to adorn their bodies with tattoos and piercings, and that they also don't have to worry about the practicalities of their choices. Nothing against tats and piercings (I have a couple of each myself)...lol except stretchers they are really not my thing.
