My thinking.
'Lest we forget' - a very solemn and important statement about the true terror, tragedy and pain of war. If you study war history, this is very true, you see the great loss, there's nothing to celebrate. Unfortunately it's also necessary at times to stand against evil and I wish it wasn't. So Anzac day is to remember those who died fighting, to remember NEVER to go to war, unless all other recourse has been sort or the threat of evil too great.
I also think of people such as our good friend Veghead, who have been forgotten, who have served to protect us from evil. I think of friends I have in various services who made that choice to protect us from the chance that evil may take advantage. I think about an uncle who was a hero in Vietnam who saved many from a small town by his actions and how he never told us that and how messed up he was since. The cost of war is great, I acknowledge that sacrifice in blood and in inner peace. A price they paid for our peace today.
I also think of the politicians who are or might be flippant about what war might means in the short and long term now and and in history. I look at lies and fabrications that have occurred and I hold them accountable, for some have been quite evil in their deeds, some have been quite correct.
So indeed, Anzac day is about remembering, the peace we enjoy is quite due to wars of history and of those who serve to make sure it doesn't happen again...'lest we forget'

We served and we what? Count? Not according to our government. Twenty @#$%ing plus years of my life for what? Unrecognised war service because I served in submarines, and every @#$%ing patrol was never counted NOR recorded. ! Can't even make a claim to DVA without having the inconvenience of travelling four hours to be interviewed by some nob who did three years as a bloody yahoo on ships and now reckons the world owes him a Kings ransom. Please, give me a beak. Please Mods take my post down if it's considered offensive . . . The general populace just aren't aware..... And you can shove Opsec as well with this rant! Nah, it can stay - regardless, I believe you still count!! and so does your service!! And, yeah, i agree with the rest of your comments too.
