This article covers some things you can do to prepare when bugging out is the best option in a collapse/SHTF situation. Such a concept is quite the conundrum and not what we wish to do. Truthfully, there comes a time when you have to stand and face whatever it is that is coming against you, with no other options. The actions you take will be dependent upon the situation you are facing, and no two families (although the threat may be the same) will face a challenge exactly identical in nature. These are guidelines that you can use to help you organize if flight is the only option. readynutrition.com/resources/evac-strategy-how-to-create-a-coordinated-bug-out-plan_06022016/

Hi SA Hunter, thank you for posting the link it is very thought provoking.
Just to give you and idea of my thoughts I consider being able to adapt to various situations the key in most survival. That said I put a low priority on the idea of bugging out on foot from my home as practically carrying gear makes about 15kms per day the limit. I consider any SHTF even that pushes me to the point of needing to bug out will have a bigger foot print than 15km's so I work with the idea of a bug out vehicle being used.
I also consider such event will be so bad there will be no returning, a bit like the advice sailors have on abandoning ship and that is "you should always step up into a life boat", so I do not count on being able to return home in my plans. I fully agree with stored preps in large containers but after experiencing rodents and other nastiest I advocate steel air tight containers for all your storage, and I'm still getting supplied large tins used by the local pizza shop that they buy their olives in....they are free and of about 18lt capacity what is more they are glad not to be filling their rubbish tin with them!
The advice is pretty good as no two families will face the challenges exactly the same...I guess that helps ensure survival too!
