Anyone have a good method for losing a few cm off the waistline in a hurry? I'm speaking at an event in 10 days and just realised I need to lose a cm or two for the glad rags to fit...I could get a new suit, but would rather spend on preps instead of clothes I wear once a year at most.
(I'm leaning towards the apple diet (ie. 1 apple 3 times a day for ten days) at the moment, although any other proven suggestions would be welcome.

Ultra low calorie- no magic
Aim for 2000KJ per day.
That’s a cup of Heinz tomato soup and serve of an apple or stir fried mushrooms.
Keep the 2000kj as complex from a carbs point of view as possible.
Will work, will feel tired and will smell a bit ketotic.

Low intensity exercise like (waling or cycling) is what burns fat. If you exercise without eating the body is able to burn fat but at a very slow rate.
The only way to loose weight is to eat less calories than what you take in, obviously exercise increases caloric usage, it also increases muscle mass which increases a persons metabolism which increases overall calorie usage.

Hm, a new suit would be easier A while back I read about some dude who did liposuction and then processed the fat removed from his body into biodiesel for use in his boat. Its nice to know that apart from being my emergency food store post apocalypse, my spare tyre could also possibly power a vehicle if need be.

If you do not have any medical issues such as diabetes etc and in otherwise OK health:- Don't eat a single thing for 48 to 72 hours drink only water, straight tea or straight black coffee, you will shed excess fluid and burn calories! Eating a full apple a day is just a sugar bomb that cancels out the 10K steps. It's easier to not take in calories than to consume them and then try to burn them off afterwards! You WILL feel good after this!

I wonder if they still sell corsets or some sort of compression suit you would put under (if it's only your belly you have to worry about).
Otherwise just a repeat of what everyone else said, exercise and less calories.

So, my crash diet has finished and I've lost a couple of cm off the waistline as hoped for. All up lost around 6kg over the course of twelve days. Having taken your suggestions on board, I ended up doing a 1,000 calorie per day diet, combined with regular exercise (12k - 20k steps per day brisk walking). Some days calorie intake was as low as 600, however ended up feeling too tired to do that every day.
Last but not least, while I've lost around 8% body weight as hoped for, I've also gained insight into a) how quickly I would slim down if there was a food shortage for whatever reason and that b) I can still operate fairly well on a much smaller intake.

Thanks Spini! I've fallen off the wagon a bit today though, as the missus has decided I haven't eaten enough lately, so has been cooking a big dinner all afternoon. Has been a good learning experience though.

Good job on the weight loss. That is why it is not such a bad thing to store lots of carbs. Our lifestyles will change dramatically if it goes back to manual labour and walking/cycling during a major SHTF event. Yeah carbs are no good for our current lifestyle if one does not work with their hands.
