Can we use "flood prep" as an excuse to buy a new boat?

Can we use "flood prep" as an excuse to buy a new boat? Yep. It's a BOV - a Bug Out Vessel.

We're surrounded by the Brazos River on three sides. Our place is on a hill, so we're safe from flooding, but are still subject to some of the side effects: loss of power, loss of water service, loss of road access, etc.

Smooth Mr P...I like it...so a pool is a firefighting asset then?...lol Been there, done that. One time when I was a rural firefighter, we were doing a controlled burn on a property and a huge very well cured log pule went up and started to ember shower the house, this was in the evening when the support crews left and took the tanker truck with them, so we had to pul out the portable pump and stick it in their pool to hose the roof down to stop it catching

Yeah we have friends near Adelaide whose property was burnt right up to the house year before last; but their house survived because the neighbour used his pump to empty their pool all over the house.

Smooth Mr P...I like it...so a pool is a firefighting asset then?...lol Actually, yes it can be. I've had many rural customers over the years ask about the viability of using this +/- 40,000L tank of water in their yard to save their homes. And I know of a couple of times it was done. You do have to be careful about structural damage to the pool (various factors are involved in this), but when it comes down to the choice between damaging a pool or losing a house and everything in it, priorities tend to seem clearer.
