Hi Members!
I know I've posted threads like this in the past, but i am once again asking for your feedback on the site.
Things like:
* What do you find that we do well here, and also not so well?
* What would you like to see added to the forum (or even removed) that could be of benefit to you and other members?
* How do you find the layout of the forum, does it need a re-vamp?
* Do we try to re-introduce a form of merchandise, memberships or the likes? NB: I would prefer not to have memberships as not everyone can do this. I've always wanted this site to be 100% free but I'm open to ideas. Merchandise was a pain, but again, happy to re visit if members want it.
I'm happy to take on board all feedback and any ideas you guy's may have to improve the forum.
Get your thinking caps on, I'm really hoping you all jump on this thread and get involved!!
Also, I am happy for you to message me if you do not want to post your feedback here.
Glad to see lots of old faces still floating around and i am looking forward to chatting with the newer members.
Cheers!

I don't think anything needs to change. There are 3 main prepper forums in Australia, and this one is clearly the best. Format is easy to use, there's no adds or spam, and the moderators do a good job ensuring everyone plays nice.
I have no idea what the running costs are, but if merchandise would help you have a forum member, Joey, who could perhaps be used to create a line of suitable items.
As with most forums, there is probably a large number of inactive members. It would be nice to see tnem participate more. Perhaps a message could be sent inviting them to check in occasionally.

It’s good, no need for a change. most forums suffer from stagnation after a while but so what? the info is still relevant.

The other day I thought of another great idea for a section topic, but alas it's gone from memory now

I know it's hard for some, but i would be happy to fling a few dollars towards running costs.

I didn't reply to this topic straight away because nothing immediately came to mind in terms of changes needed. Now after thinking about it over a few days I can say ... I still can't think of anything in particular that needs changing.

Thanks for the feedback so far Guy's and Girl's. Much appreciated. ml8300 , appreciate the gesture, running costs aren't really a concern at this point in time. Im really just looking to make sure that everyone is happy with everything from use-ability of the site, board layouts right down to even colour schemes? Any and all feedback would be great. Im happy that everyone (so far) is happy.

Add me to the list of 'happy with how it is now'. I checked out the other options frostbite mentioned ... this site really is well in front. Only point I'd raise is that this site shows up well down the list on google search (about page 6 from memory). That probably helps keep the weeds out of the wheat here but it might also mean the site misses out on extra members. It's a fine line of balance I suppose.

The only thing I have to mention is we do need more members and/or active people on this forum.

Only posted here once but have been reading for a while. Used to be active at aussurvivalist.com. I find the Shoutbox a bit annoying. It is at the top of every screen, all the time. It means every screen needs to be scrolled down. Possibly it could only show in the Home screen or headings screens. It seems to be unnecessary duplication.
Great site otherwise. The content seems to be more opinion than information though. spinifex's(?) water distillation topic was excellent. Testing things and seeing what worked/what didn't. More like that would be great.
My 2c.

My 2c. So the person who had decided not to contribute here (quote: only posted here once but have been reading for a while), criticises the lack of informative content. Bwahaha. A simple rule of life, and of prepping, is you only get out as much as you put in. A point lost on some.

You keep the lid on spam. Something that another site did not do.

ROFLMAO. Hi, TD. I see you are still poisoning your own well everywhere you go. I wasn't criticising. Just offering feedback and suggestions as was requested. From my own experience in programming and publishing on the web, feedback is invaluable so I try and offer some if I think it might be relevant.
A bit more too. The registering and login process is great. Nice and easy and most of all it works. I have tried a couple of forums during the last year or so where the registration process doesn't work! One even had a topic by the site owner saying new member numbers were low. I do sometimes get a delay of a couple of seconds when a page loads. I'm pretty sure it is the old OS and browser I'm using which causes it but if other members report the same thing it might be worth a look. It is only occasional but I did have the browser freeze last night while I was typing a post into the "Reply" box. Shrugs, computers!
While I'm posting I'll thank spinifex for the water distillation topic, SAHunter for the pallet cabin topic and milspec for the great personal experience info on TI and NV gear. Good stuff.

I know it's hard for some, but i would be happy to fling a few dollars towards running costs. Is something like Patreon worthwhile for people happy to donate towards running costs or another such platform?

You might be doing yourself a disservice by only showing about half the sections when people aren't logged in. Potential members may look, see only 20 sections and think there isn't much here. They won't be able to know that there is twice the content if registered. Maybe have all the sections show when not logged in and have them marked "Members only". Or have the topic title show with a sub header of "Members only". Just a thought.

This has been on my mind a lot lately - the original owner of this forum wanted it open to all - it wasn't all about members, but putting out viable information. Leave it with me, and thanks for the post.
