So ... I was almost an unwilling participant in a 4 vehicle, high speed demolition on the highway 2 minutes from where I live.
Just as I've come over the crest of a rise, a ute loaded with hay has pulled out of a paddock gate in front of a truck, the truck pulled out wide to get around it, the ute belatedly realised they were in the way and half pulled onto the gravel verge. Meanwhile a third vehicle made the unorthodox choice of attempting to overtake both the ute and the truck which was still taking up half of the right hand lane. This has all happened in a couple of seconds and only about 150m in front of me. I've instantly lifted out of the throttle and drifted onto the gravel road verge on my left to make way for the cavalcade of swerving, braking and accelerating vehicles. Crisis averted. This time. Again.
And all this just on the way to the beach! (Which is why sharks don't bother me - I know traffic is waaaaay more risky.)
How many folks here have dash-cams fitted to their cars? Any reco's on brands, specs and/or their usefulness? I'd love to be able to hand over a video to the police when these kinds of things happen right in front of me. And they happen at least once a year. In this particular case a couple of penalties for driving without due care could be handed out to deserving recipients.

The ones built into your car are the best, like the Sentry system on Teslas. Aftermarket ones are sometimes the target of theft themselves ironically. Probably less of an issue in rural areas though.

Get front and back cameras, not just front. Some give you the option of viewing footage on your phone and saving. Make sure you have decent memory and that the footage is legible ie can you read number plates?

Glad you avoided that. Somebody on their phone might not have been so lucky.

Its definitely a reminder to always be ready for the unexpected. I also practice my collision avoidance drills from time to time.

Even when you've dodged a bullet there could be more to come :/
