Iran said its arch enemy the United States bore responsibility for the consequences after killing one of its top commanders, Qasem Soleimani, in an air strike Friday on Baghdad airport.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned of “severe revenge” for “the criminals who bloodied their foul hands with his blood”, and vowed that “God willing, his work and his path will not be stopped”.
What I find interesting in this situation is that the commander of the RG was in the Iraqi capital in the first place. He must have been invited in by the Iraqi leaders and felt some particular matter important enough to be there. This is a high level player, not a lesser minion, so a big deal between Iran and Iraq must be in the offing?
Probably a good time to top off fuel reserves. This might be a Franz Ferdinand moment in history. Be interesting to see what position Vlad the Lad takes and also China - given they both trade and deal with Iran. And even Europe for that matter.
"In addition to the Middle East crisis, the conflicts in Syria and Libya, where Turkey has just begun deploying troops, will also be on the agenda. Russia said it will support Germany's peace initiative in the region. It is thought both leaders will also want to discuss the Ukraine situation, ongoing since the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014."
So pretty much looks like the US is sh!t out of friends and is on its way to being bundled out of the ME either with or without a military fight. Meaning Iran takes the win as it's influence in the region expands.
The only way this can get worse if for the US to press on with military ops that result in US troops getting pointlessly killed and maimed for no net advantage. Seems US strategists have learned little, if anything, since Vietnam.
Even though its been put down to an engine fire I'm sure the media will find a way to blame those pesky Russians whoops I mean Iranians the truth is always the first casualty when there's a need for a distraction
