We spend 4 billion total as a foreign aid budget. (compared with a 43 billion defence budget and 82 billion on health. I reckon the problem with foreign aid is assessing how much tangible value it provides. I suspect a lot of it supports corrupt officialdom and private interests in the countries where it is spent. Even if my suspicion is unfounded, that means foreign aid has an image and marketing problem - we don't know what it really does. I think last I checked foreign aid accounted for 0.2% or 0.4% of the Australian budget. Fair point though about assessing tangible benefit. Maybe we should have considered something similar, but not quite as draconian as the Chinese model (viz loan money at times the other country needs it the most, but charge an interest rate they cannot afford to repay and use it as a negotiation tool to secure territory).

Isn't a separation usually allowed between the insulation batts and cladding to prevent condensation affecting the rockwool?
Definitely agree on the insulation, it's one of the biggest bang for buck things you can do.

Having the CHICOM fishing fleet so close to out EEZ now will also put more strain on our customs and navy/air force keeping an even closer eye on the fleet, which I bet will be super trawlers to make sure they don't cross our waters or launch scouting parties to explore our vast uninhabited coastline in the top end. No doubt the said fishing fleet will also be accompanied by either a coast guard battleship or another form of armed escort that is larger than our biggest navy boat like they use when they rape and pillage every other fishery around the place. I agree with this and ygidorp re foreign aid to our syrategic neighbours, ot os a necessary expense to foster national defence. Exactly, fully agree.

Nice!!!
In that second photo, is that an earthwool blanket on the walls rather than bulk insulation between the studs?

Absolutely. What the hell else did they expect the response to be? This reminds me of the Bali Nine incident. By demanding the Australians be set free, the Australian government essentially condemned those people to death. This posturing is just appealing to the lowest common denominator and it was inevitable that it would just blow up further. Both sides need to pull their heads in and come to the table, or it's the everyday person - Australian AND Chinese - who will suffer.

And this is exactly why when people bleat about foreign aid, I get annoyed. Maybe if we hadn't skimped on pennies in our strategic interests, we wouldn't be spending pounds to try find a way to stop this now.

I did a google last night and couldn't seem to find anything going on locally. I had assumed everything was cancelled due to covid?

Like with a bug out scenario early detection makes a big difference. Agreed. I did a blood test last year, and I felt fine. Came back with enzymes indicating my kidneys are not functioning well. The old adage of you knowing your body best is utter garbage. I've blown ligaments and tendons in sports and just kept going because I didn't know something was wrong. Always consult a doc if you have a trace of doubt.

That's quite the SHTF moment! Best wishes for a full and rapid recovery frostbite. Glad to hear you didn't skimp on your preps in the finance department, and that they have put you in a good position going forward. PS: Although it is generally not considered polite conversation over dinner, we quietly added trauma/TPD/death insurance to our preparations about three years ago. Given I am now trying to get in to see a neurologist to try diagnose why I am having recurrent Bell's Palsy, it gives me a fair bit of comfort.

Wouldn't the outcome be drastically different buried? ie exposure of the metal to salts and liquids, but lower and regulated temperature for the interior?
I am assuming you would bury a real cache?

Good call. It's not because I'm of Asian descent. I don't want Pax Americana to end, and I don't want a new Pax Sinica, but the worst thing I can see for this kind of scenario is to treat the other side as idiots. I see this a lot on social media platforms, where Americans think their technological superiority at war is unsurpassed. The fastest way to lose your edge/advantage is to assume you're the best and the other side are bumbling fools. These little guys will get seriously chopped up if they are ever ordered to fight on the ground in Tibet / Ladakh ! Having personally observed Chinese conscripts living and operating in these areas over an extended period of time I can tell you they are seriously outclassed by the Indian troops stationed there. Really? I would be willing to bet the CCP has quietly thrown a bunch of money at ex-US military/foreign troops to update their military doctrine and provide training to upskill their troops. I wouldn't underestimate the development of the Chinese military. The US government obviously quietly (at least previously quietly) treats China as a rising threat. I don't see why we should not consider them as a threat.

"The Chinese army is full of wimps, sissies and little emperors". And the Japs were squinty eyed, buck-toothed and couldn't see in the dark. That didn't work out well for us. Good call. 15 miles equals 24 km, a good paddler [lets just give him that] can paddle about 5km/hr, so 5 hrs. Plenty of time for the Tsunami that can travel 4000km in that time. Should be fine.. He's connected to his subconscious which is FAB,.. unfortunately, he's critical thinking skills are very poor, aka he believes the stories [waking dreams] in his head are fact instead of dreams. Too much LSD? Or maybe something in those unidentified berries / mushrooms he likes to eat hahaha! So much gold in this video.

As someone of Asian descent, the whole thing makes me quite uncomfortable. You only need to look back to WW2 to see the US internment camps. With the current covid crisis, I already feel like there's a potential target on my back when I go out despite the fact I'm basically 100% born and bred and Australia (don't speak a shred of Chinese), and my Asian wife is born and bred in New Zealand (barely speaks any Cantonese).
Yesterday I got told off by a lady in the supermarket because I walked too close to her while chasing my 4 year old back into the checkout line. I wonder if she would have done the same to a parent of non-Asian descent.
Sad times.

People laugh at the Chinese and their apparent lack of ability to innovate. To be blunt though, it's probably a lot cheaper to buy and/or ignore IP infringement to get the technology you want.
Look at what happened with the F-16.

Probably call family, and advise them to do the same.
