Hey all,
I thought I would put a post here about survival without any preps as I believe it is important to learn how to survive in any environment with just the cloths on your back.
Having preps to me is a luxury that will make life easier in a SHTF event, this could be a floor, fire, storm or something more long term like collapse or whatever you are personally prepping for. I have been speaking with my grandfather in law about this as he wanted to set up a course in Australia however in reality it will never happen as there is too much red tape we would have to go through, also the cost factor.
My grandfather in-law (thai) is a retired general, on one mission he spent 6 years in the jungle with just a knife and riffle. All this time he was in enemy territory and remained un-noticed, ate well and lived comfortably knowing that the enemy would not be so nice to him if caught. He teaches survival in Thailand, real survival from unarmed through to armed. He has shot animals hiding behind trees hitting vital organs just my estimating the location based on the size of the animals head, he teaches people how to kill animals or enemies not just with shooting them directly with a bullet however using the bullet to kill by shock so there is no mark left.
He teaches people how to get the most out of every day objects and materials found in the jungle, things like bamboo used to cook rice, as a bot, bowl, spoon, thread, weapon, trap and so on. These are the type of skills that is needed as SHTF could happen at any time and your preps may not be within your grasp or lost during the SHTF event.
I am not sure if there is anything like this in Australia however I really think their should be, the shooting side of things may not be possible in Australia without having to jump through endless hoops however the rest should be possible. The reason I say this is because flying to Thailand to learn survival isn't an option for a lot of preppers however that doesn't mean you can't learn yourself.
Go camping and only take a knife and some water, put yourself in situations where you are forced to make use of something around you. Instead of going to the shops to replace something that has broken, try and fix it. Pull it apart and see how it is made, that way if you can't fix it you know what components are in the object and in a survival situation if you come across a normal everyday object you are just not looking at the object you are looking at the internal parts that could help you.
A simple everyday toaster can be used for more than just making toast, if you have an old one, pull it apart and have a look at what components are in it. A blender, heaps of good stuff there. TV, computer, or even a basic kettle, there is a lot you can do with what is around you if you just stop looking at the basic object.
It doesn't matter if SHTF and I was in the bush, jungle, city or suburbs, I would be fine with or without a knife or any preps, however having preps is a luxury and I like luxury so will always have them.
I am serious about prepping and making sure my family and I will survive anything that comes our way, I still to this day do lectures about privacy, counter surveillance and how to disappear even though all the above would effect the industries a lot of my companies are in. Why because I believe it is important for people to know what is going on and how to avoid it.
I would strongly recommend people to look at what courses or information is available to them in their area (as this isn't a plug about what I do) and attend them, learn as much as you can so you can survive without preps, learn how to avoid monitoring. I mean think about it, if Australia was ever invaded all the surveillance the government has setup can be used against the public by the enemy. It only makes sense to know what is there and how to avoid it as best as possible. Learn, research and practice. Look at everyday objects and think "what else can the be used for" or "how does that work", you would be amazed with how many "preps" you already have in your house, and find cheaper ways to get things you need (like small batteries) from every day items.
There is already a RPG thread on here, maybe we need a Hack thread so others can share their hacks on everyday objects.
