I am prepping. I still have quite a few things to get and do before I'm finished. I want an apocalypse. I'm serious. I want to stop using paper money, stop being harassed by Bill collectors, etc. does that make me a bad person? I know an apocalypse will mean people died more rapidly but I'm done with society.

I don't think it makes you a bad person... I'm fed up with society, too.
Having said that, for the time being my husband and I are content with getting out of town and raising our kids as self-sufficiently as possible in the bush. Not really looking forward to a day when we can't get outside medical help in an emergency, and if our harvest fails we're up sh*t creek!
We all have those bad patches (or at least I do) where we want to go and hide as a hermit in a cave somewhere. Try to remember, this too shall pass.

All societies have rises and falls, 300 years is the average. doesn't make you a bad person, but my encouragement is to become debt free and live a self sustained life so that when, not if, but when our economies collapse and things go to shit. Any government thats left or banks or anyone you owe anything too won't have a reason to come find you.
Keep on keeping on. Don't be discouraged, I think societies demise is increasing.

You are not a bad person! I do feel sometimes though we often romanticise the way things were in the past, it was tough for a lot of people, people died younger and more often, they worked very hard and had less leisure time. For now use the paper money to get to where you want to be, that is self sufficient. Remember though that we can not be entirely self sufficient, we need other people sometimes, as Scoutmum pointed out "Not really looking forward to a day when we can't get outside medical help in an emergency, and if our harvest fails we're up sh*t creek!". Maybe write down some small goals to achieve over the next few months. See where you may be able to reduce costs in other areas so that most of your money is going to pay of debts etc. Getting out of debt needs to be a priority see if there are any luxuries you can reduce, maybe look at what you are spending on food and transport etc.

My mother lost her job because she got hurt while working. Disability won't pay her and her doctors are screwing her over. No one wants to hire me cause I have no "real" experience. So we are living on one income (my mother's new husband) but make a little too much to be on food stamps. My credit is shot because my father put me in debt when I was 5 then left without a word. And this is how we got started on homesteading but we have no money for food or half our bills. Only way out of debt is if we cut everything and become homeless with one car. Which means my mother will lose my younger siblings and be labeled an unfit parent. (I apologise for my rant. Just emotional cause this year has fooking sucked!)

You're not a bad person - far from it! When things are going wrong, the slightest bump in the road can seem like a mountain. Look around your home. Do you have things that you can off-load quickly on ebay or Craigslist? Go thru every cupboard, every room and even the garage. Are there things you don't use? You need to be ruthless and put sentiments aside and cull those things you not only don't need, but don't use. What about a yard sale? In saying this you then need to pay those things that are most urgent. Don't buy anything except food! Make do with what you have and give yourself ONE year before you buy anything for yourself again. It is common knowledge that just sitting in our homes we have about $5,000 in unused/obsolete items! You will get much more on the auction sites, but sometimes yard sales bring you back to earth because well spent money on items sometimes only fetch a pittance at yard sales. You can do it!
I was thinking about you Mandy and have added this:
Selling on eBay (we don't have Craigslist or Amazon in Oz) as an extra income can be rewarding. Try and find something different, like Lego/Fischer Price toys, embroidered tablecloths, Children's books (but only classic and in great condition), students books, like text books etc. Its amazing what people sell at yard sales! Even with a part or full time job, having extra income as a buffer can be a Godsend.
My daughter bought a program to design cross stitch patterns on her computer. She concentrates on Pop art and sells just the pattern on Etsy. Its downloaded by the buyer via PDF format. Her patterns go for $3 or $4 each and although it doesn't sound like much, she can make $20 a day 7/24. She does nothing other than upload the pattern and Etsy does the rest. If you enjoy any sort of craft, Etsy is a great platform to sell your wares. It's not a lot, but it gives you what Aussies call some 'pin money'. Even if you used it just to pay your mobile or power bill, its better than not having that money. Google online for 'cottage industry' jobs. That's jobs that you do from home. My DIL loves dogs and is looking at establishing some sort of work around dogs. She would love to establish a 'doggie day care' where you leave your dog while you are at work! Start with making a list of what YOU would like to do and always remember,
You Are Stronger Than You Know; More Capable Than You Ever Knew; And You Are Loved More Than You Could Possibly Imagine.

Its ok Mandy, to rant sometimes, but as Matilda said you may find that there are things around the home that you can try to sell, you would be surprised by what other people want. Are there any services that can help organise your debts?

We have applied for help but again we make too "much". The things I'd worth we own are my siblings and there father keeps telling them she is a terrible mother. My brother has Legos. My sister has a bass and amp. Both have expensive bikes. But my siblings are selfish and won't give any of it up in order to save us. I could make stuffed animals but I don't have money for fabric. This is why I hate the US government and want to leave it.
