So I would like to do a practise scenario! Any other takers? I was wondering if any other members would like to set the scenario for us and the rules by which we need to abide by. Those rules are really there to find out where we may be lacking in our preps ie if we need to break the rule then that is an area we need to fix etc. EG Water is turned off, means no showers etc. Maybe the weekend that this is done can come as a surprise as well, (cant do it last week in January though!)

Maybe something like no shopping for a week or two. Only eat what you have on hand?

Might need something a bit tougher than that! I would like another person to be controlling what occurs as it makes the scenario more random. I will also try to record what we eat and the amount of water used during that time etc.

Fine then. 1 month with no utilities, you've got one tank of petrol for each car and for the first fortnight you cant use your left hand.

Remmy not shopping for a fortnight is easy, I agree, for some people. We have about a months worth of food here, but it's not all entirely interesting and it would be a good idea to have a test run. Lets up the anti on this though. It's coming into TOTAL FIRE BAN season so maybe this should be delayed until early Autumn but how about living of off your stored food for a week and not using any utilities to cook it, including tap/town water. Probably not hard enough? so lets up the anti again and you can only cook over an open fire started with fire steel. Have fun cooking outside in gale force winds and rain if you don't have an undercover area 1-2 weeks of that should at least give people an idea of things, maybe they will realise they can't cook their stored food properly or that once the BBQ gas bottle runs out they have no idea how to cook over a fire. On day one they may discover they don't own any cast iron cookware (HEADS UP ALDI HAVE A SALE ON CAST IRON CAMPING COOKWARE COMING UP)

I was going to suggest that You Must Enter A Name and I dress up as zombies and storm your house. The only weapon you can use against us is overlord's mallet from his "Whack-a-Zombie" game. Maybe Ammo9's suggestion is better.

I've got some skills in zombie special effects for authenticity. We're going to be running zombies right?
[Extended utilities outage would be a good try out I feel. ]

scenario, cyclone has gone through, house is unsafe to be in, looters have been coming around. You are now living outside your choice how you will be living, shed tent under a tarp. every two hours you have to get up and do a perimeter check for looters, this way some fatigue will set in. you can only go in the house to get you preps. otherwise you stay away from the house as it could fall on you. so no house no power and no mains water.
Sound just like camping.
just a thought hope this gives some ideas. this is what I think we will be doing when it all goes pear shape.

If people have work though they are excluded from most of this.

You would need to be living somewhere near me to do the Zombie thing!

I need to get me some cast iron cookwear... can't believe I've not got that sorted yet.
...probably cause I hardly ever cook. Another thing I have to work on.

Aldi has a $99 cast iron set as of this weekend that looks like it'll have me covered pretty well.
So I've never actually cooked on cast iron before. I've googled cast iron benefits and seems pretty useful, but what makes it you guys want it over other materials?

It does need seasoning (I use Copha for mine), but it's not a big deal after the first couple of times you do it.

Re: cast iron wear - It spreads the heat instead of being at one point [holds heat]. If your cookware doesn't have plastic handles and it has a really thick heavy base [scanpan for instance] then they would work just fine, though you'd have a sooted outside. I've got both. If you plan on a few people, having a thick heavy based soup pot would be invaluable for soups for many and boiling large amounts of water, incredibly helpful for hygiene.

The obvious benefits of even heat distribution and heat retention aside, it will last longer when used over a camp fire. I am also buying that aldi special, cant wait.
