The following scenario has been suggested by Fractus if you wish to give it a try and you feel prepared enough to do so! If you can't then you can still participate by giving Fractus a PM with suggestions or just role playing if you prefer. My family and I will actually be doing this and I will record our experiences. If you wish to discuss the scenario please do so in this thread ausprep.com/thread/2034/practise-scenario?page=2&scrollTo=26660 so we can keep this one for scenario only. This is not quite what you asked for but I am having a shot! Answers should be more of a story rather than dot points. You can add any extra facts but have to live with the events as delivered. You don't have to live this scenario as many of us do not have enough family members prepared to try out privations for the sake of improvement and testing. The scenario will unfold and your plans will need to be based on future events that are not in your control. Part one It has not become general knowledge yet. Through ausprep and mathilda's research, Gray has joined the dots and lays a compelling argument that shtf is imminent. You check your facts from many diverse and unconnected info sources and come to the same conclusion. We have passed peak oil and the glut of oil is a very temporary measure by opec to try and hide the facts. They can no longer just increase their reserves without new discoveries. facts: we have one week before an announcement is made to the general public. US has begun building their strategies reserves which in itself will drive prices up. Australia will implement severe restrictions as a precaution very soon It is known that there are twelve super tankers that have fuel and are headed here as part of normal restocking. So it will not be immediately that fuel will actually be low. So with the restrictions we should have a couple of months to prepare. What are the first steps. You can base it on your own lifestyle. Be careful as part 2 is coming. if you have any nasty suggestions to add to the scene pm me and I will try to add them to future parts

Have just discussed with hubby what is about to occur and he agrees! He suggested we convert vehicles to use LPG but I guess we had better do that rather quickly. I get the feeling though the government is not telling the truth about it all, I mean there is supposed to be 12 super tankers headed this way but are they vulnerable? I think I need to make a list of what we still need to do to prepare for this and what we already have, tomorrow I will go to town and get what we need. I can't believe this is occurring, and I am not sure I am prepared enough.

Fractus...
Can't argue the scenario... Apart from the rapid devaluation of resources (maybe a game to destroy Russia... Idk)
But it is possible...
So gov has released publicly... Oh no we only have enough oil for xyz weeks?? Or is about to??
To the part one, very important I have a solid weeks warning its about to go down...
So what do I do?? First with help work out how to gain access to my super (takes a few weeks I'm told) as it will be worth nothing when this shortage goes into full effect
Now what?? Well I need to focus and go "into shtf mode'
Knowing what a shortage will do to prices, get a small stockpile happening, a full tank of gas + half in reserve
Get more extra food stocks (thanks aldi)
Do a shop around for a bol (yes why super is emptied)
Get all kits out and brief family on what's going on
As this week warning has been 100% confirmed by sources
Make sure briefing is 100% acknowledged
Get all items for bugging out in even better order, run practice drills to load car... In dark... With no light....
(This is copied from my previous response... I still stand by it till episode 2)..

My preps for part 1 Fill up all jerry cans and tanks of all vehicles. As fuel is going to sky rocket in price, food will get very expensive and some essentials. Because this appears to be long term I am thinking fuel is a temporary commodity. I buy a couple of solar panels and a spare couple of 12 volt car batteries so I can run my inverter and charger all the 18 v hand tools I have. I have time so I book in a large walk behind rotary hoe so I can increase my vege patch enormously. To be fully self sufficient in veges. But as it is so hard to initially prepare the ground I will do it easiest way for now. A redraw on the mortgage and leave it in an offset account so it is not costing but I have access. Big buy at bunnings on handles and tools screws etc so I can build stuff later. Again not urgent as even with no fuel we will still have electricity. Go through food stocks and buy more canned tomatoes and rice and lentils. Purchase a couple of boxes of big mason jars and orders gas delivery for the main gas bottle ( no mains gas here) so if required I can preserve my frozen food. Have a serious talk to the people I expect to come to me. Tell them what is extremely likely to occur and where they can source the info for themselves. This is the hard part. Tell them that they are welcome to come but they must bring a lot of food and other necessities. If they choose not to believe me don't bother coming with empty hands.

Part 2 Day 8 China has seized 9 of our tankers and taken control of the Timor oil platforms. This leaves Australia with 12 days of reserves which the federal govt has seized under their defence powers for strategic purposes. They allow a trickle through for emergency services. Based on your answers to part 1 what are your next steps? Did you plan well? Part 3 next Muh haha ?

Part 1Restricted fuel means trucks and tractors would get fuel and food still comes to stores. You might have to walk there to get the goods, I've got a backpack, trolley and perhaps best of all a couple of suitcases to put food in to get it home. This is very good. From what I remember Australia makes 35% of it's fuel from local sources, so it's not going to be zero even if international shipping stopped, we have about 300 years of coal and we have lots of natural gas. So electricity and gas [and LPG tanks for cars] would probably be fairly well supplied in comparison. LPG conversion business' would be overwhelmed in a day or two with the smart people and in a week they'll be booked out for 3 years, so there's little to no chance of getting a conversion in the short term. I would assume public transport is doable, though it would suddenly be bloated and long delays would be expected. My work currently only has 2 days a week travel which I could do tomorrow on Public Transport [and have delays], though I could just move it to online like the rest of my business and this would probably suit my clients who now have no fuel access anyhow. Lots of people would either loose jobs, industry would slow, though not stop. I'm not fussed too much, some changes in life and lifestyle, I may take a serve income reduction, though we could just move into a parents house if that happened, grow some more veggies [they have more space anyhow], do some odd jobs, change my business structure/plan to suit the new environment, take a pay cut to attract and be affordable to the new market, annoying, but pretty doable. Restricted fuel is a pain but livable right now for myself. Adapt and thrive, perhaps I'll canvas the area and trade goods to get people out of their sudden depression so that they can think well enough to create enterprises and/or line up to do work the industries that would be thriving [like bike shops, garden supplies]. The change of pace is fine. Part 2. [ you should have given us a bit more time ]With china seizing, aka being pirates, this is an act of war and at the very least would see condemnation from many nations. Of course it doesn't mean war, though I would suspect that it would at the very least spark strong opposition and sanctions by our strategic partners . It's not looking good at this point. So I'm informing my close friends and relatives and getting them to my location, even if they ride a bike here or walk. Whilst we still generate fuel in this country, with this change and assuming there's mobilization by army and reserve, I would presume that only essential services would see any fuel. So there's a good chance we have power and gas supplies still, perhaps we loose PT but I'm pretty sure delivery by trucks is still going on, since it's more essential that power. At this point I'm buying all of the food and alternative foods [farm supplies for wheat, lucerne and pea] and as much DHT milk and canned foods as I can get. Obviously everyone else will be doing this, though I will act quickly based on this change. I don't really need more as such, though with more mouths to feed, there's less food for all of us.
We're still not at defcon 1, though this is warming up to be pretty bad and so the house is going to be hardened, bath tubs and every kind of container that can hold water will be filled, beds laid out for the new guests. Having the conversations with everybody is now the time, it might turn out good in the next week or two and we can all laugh about it, but it might turn out to be very bad. I'll break out the lasertag equipment I have [kid you not it's part of the preps!] and start running defensive drills and scenarios, start talking with the neighbors, 'Hey this will probably blow over but if it doesn't how about we all work together to keep each other safe'. Working together and assigning roles. Hopefully we have got together 6 months food for the people we have at a cost of personal food storage at the benefit of having a doctor, a top level martial artist, some young and fit guys and most importantly having enough people to keep the house protected. There's 4 possible locations, but with this much time, we'll be set up.
Looking towards part 3... hopefully it all blows over...

Part 2
Good thing we booked in for vehicle conversion before the Government announced what was going on! As for supplies i have a fair amount in storage already but would like more seeds, gardening items and water stored inside. I already often walk to the stores to get what I need and also have trolleys and baskets etc. I wonder if this will bring us to a war with China? That would be a concern for me as my husband works at a coal mine that the Chinese have a part share in, I guess I will have to talk to hubby about how that will affect his work. I wish my older children were not so far away but at least we are on good terms with our neighbours and have friends that are likely to be helpful. I think I need to get some iodine in and check to see if first aid kit needs more added to it. What if this goes nuclear I guess I need to be preparing to bunker down in case this happens!!!! Now thats a frightening thought I might just go to that site where you can check if you are in a nuclear strike zone. I still don't feel prepared enough!
