copied from BOM, IDQ10810 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland Tropical Cyclone Three Day Outlook for the Coral Sea Issued at 2:30 pm EST on Monday 2 February 2015 for the period until midnight EST Thursday 5 February 2015. Existing Cyclones in the Eastern Region: Nil. Potential Cyclones: Severe tropical cyclone Ola, category 3, is located east of the Eastern Region approximately 400km west-southwest of New Caledonia. Ola is currently moving in a southward direction and weakening. Ola is forecast to move in a south-southwesterly direction for the next 24-48 hours and may enter the Eastern Region late on Tuesday or on Wednesday, though by that time it is more likely to be an extra-tropical low than a tropical cyclone. For the latest information on severe tropical cyclone Ola, refer to the Fiji Meteorological Service website at www.met.gov.fj. There are no other significant lows in the Eastern Region and none are expected to develop over the next few days. Likelihood of a tropical cyclone in the Eastern Region on: Tuesday Low Wednesday Low Thursday Very Low NOTES: The likelihood is an estimate of the chance of each system being a tropical cyclone in the Region for each day. Very Low: less than 5% Moderate: 20 to 50% Low: 5% to 20% High: over 50% The area of coverage for this outlook is the Coral Sea and northern Tasman Sea west of 160E.

From what I've heard we're unlikely to even get rain off it... It's slowed down and is unlikely to ever hit land. Was really hoping for some good rain, too!

My wife and I both have family in Mackay and Sarina. They're hanging on to their hats.

The QLD one is now going to be cat four five. We are in the path but by the time it gets to Gin Gin it will have been about 300k over land so I assume it will just be a lot of rain.

For those in SEQ (Brisbane/Ipswich area), SEQWater have quietly removed their "only 10% chance of rainfall higher than 600mm in catchment area" notice on their website overnight, due to increase in Cyclone Marcia's category and change of path to more southerly direction. Just a precaution at this stage, but they are briefed by BOM and a lot more wary after 2011...

It started raining here last night north side of Brisbane and has not stopped, rain gauge just about to go over the top. One good thing is both water tanks are over flowing now.

Just called and spoke to my sister in Dundowran Beach - north of Hervey Bay. They have prepared as good as they can - filled the bath etc. Their biggest worry is the storm surge as they have a tidal creek that they back onto. The new expected 3m height has them worried. She was glad I called as the waiting is worse and it took her mind away for any hour or so. She got a bit teary and I reminded her that she has been thru this before. On a funny note she looked out and saw a hare eating the tops off her flowers (which will be underwater soon!) She called her friend to make sure she was OK on her own and asked if she had put her furniture etc away. 'Yes, the gate won't close but I put the bin against it. My sister said to her you probably won't have a gate, let alone a bin when its over!! Never mind dear, I've got a block of dark chocolate and a bottle of red - I'll be fine!! If you go to weatherzone Yeppoon you can see the wind speed increasing when you click on 24 hr graph.
