Symbolism plays a big part in our lives whether we realise it or not. It can be an identification mark of something we are proud to display. It also unites us under a common cause or bond. Australians identify themselves under the Australian flag and it can unite us and is instantly recognisable especially if we are travelling overseas. It represents our history and the past in 3 flags represented in the top left hand corner. The white cross on the red background is the cross of St George and it was held high when King John set his seal when the Magna Carter was signed in 1216 and again in 1265 when Simon de Montford bought together the very first Parliament in England. The other 2 crosses of St Patrick and St Andrew also hold our rich heritage from the Irish and the Scots. This is our past and we should be so proud of it! But also on that same flag there is a 7 pointed star which is the Federation Star which unites our States and Territories and the beautiful Southern Cross which positions this great nation on earth in the night sky. The blue background represents our clear blue sky and our beautiful blue ocean that surrounds our shores. The Southern Cross maps out our future while the Union Jack tells of our past.
It would seem that many American Preppers have adopted the Gadsden Flag to identify with. There has been a lot of talk by TV and Radio in the last 24 hours about the coach of the Patriots wearing this symbol on his T-Shirt. Thats not to say he's a Prepper as the flag is native to that area. It was Benjamin Franklin that sketched the first flag. Just like SHTF and TEOTWAWKI etc. can be identified with Preppers, the words 'Don't Tread On Me' is also identifiable with Prepping. It also identifies with Freedom. So just like the Christians that drew the sign of the fish in the sand, next time you see a coiled rattlesnake ready to strike, you can deduce that just maybe that person might just be a Prepper.
Great article about the Gadsden Flag.
