Ah, the mog, I loved the mog. If you got the military one, they had a nice lever that you could flick and go from forward to reverse instantly.

A slightly more serious note...... Landcruiser - tough, go forever and there a tons of them around so plenty of parts and don't stick out too much
Suzuki DR650 - simple, tough

Either the truck (for obvious reasons) or the VW Beetle - as it's the only other vehicle that finishes the right way up...

I can't see the video, however, an old family friend used to swear by their old-school VW beetle for camping trips. They said it was tough and ran on an oily rag, yet also light enough that they were able to get help from a few people and literally pick it up and turn it around when there wasn't enough space to do a U-turn. I guess the engine being in the front also gave plenty of boot space too. Sounds like just the right thing for bugging out.

Hm, dunno how I got that wrong, did mean in the back, leaving lots of space in front for luggage.

I'm sure we all dream of a really awesome BOV (mine would be a bushmaster), but IMO they should be considered as a disposable asset. A traffic jam, road block, blocked or damaged bridge, shot out tyres, etc, any one of a number of things could cause you to leave that vehicle and obtain another or even proceed on foot. Agreed, 100%. But you surely must admit some of them look pretty cool...

Vdubs type 1,2 and 3 are great vehicles for bugging out, with the engine over the independently sprung rear drive wheels and low weight they are near unboggable.
Weak spot is not driving it properly. engine revs need to be kept up. Driving it like a diesel with low revs will root it very quick. Driving it like you stole it is the way to go. most traditional VW's are way too old now and it is hard to rebuild the engine properly Rebuilding the motors can be done but unless done properly don't last long, done proper you will get 200,000km from an engine but only 20-30,000 from a cheap job.
They do very well in hot desert temps so long as the revs are kept up.
