We have a cottage on the property we rent out and have had several Singaporean families stay Nice people but live in big city apartments The kids are sterile!! Don't like walking in mud ,collecting eggs that have shit and hay on them ,firewood for heating(dirty) no internet , and feeding animals that slobber over them!! Don't know where their food comes from Big city apartment dwellers like these will struggle after shtf, not only because of the difficult situation they live in but also lack of skills

I'm betting on the boredom to result in complete chaos and for the masses of the concrete jungle to kill each other off fairly quick-smart. The less of them make it out, the safer those of us out in the country will be

hansdahun, I truly do wish you well with that. I genuinely hope your SHTF experience allows for such a clean schedule.

A more probable schedule would include activities such as "fear for life" "run til exhaustion" "be so hungry you drink bin juice" "wipe arse with hand" "get sick" "endure fever" "die painful death"

I would not be expending time and resources on food production in the first year unless it is already in production.
Way too many unknowns in the first six months to expend resources on something you may need to abandon or may not reach harvest time.
Natural disasters may make your location untenable, what then?
I plan to just keep my head down and secure until things settle one way or another only digging and planting when I am likely to be around for harvest.
Starve not likely I have a decades worth in store.

That's awesome dude. Wish all my bases were covered that thoroughly.
Is that a decades worth of food for everyone in the meetings?

That's a lot of food to move if your location becomes untenable. I hope you have a very big backpack. 100KG a year for the basic staples per person, not saying it will be a Christmas feast every day but it is enough not to starve on. I currently have 1.1ton payload per person ability and will in the near future be upgrading that to 2.3ton per person as I now have firearms and need the extra for ammo as that weighs more than I expected and costs more. Barring accidents or breakdowns I have fuel to move all that 2,000plus km soon to be 3,500km.

That's a decade of staples per person as the little group stands now. about 1,200cal per day and two multivitamin tablets per week for the first two years. will be boring but efficient. A little hunting/fishing here and there will improve things.

Might rethink your math there mate...
The average 6foot, 80kg male with no movement whatsoever requires nearly 2000cal just to not lose weight.
With intense physical work and only 1200cal you can expect to lose 2kg a week. How long can you maintain that for?

I lost 15kg over that 3mths. Shame I can't do it again as my back is causing issues for me at the moment when I try and go for a run. So looking g at other options to help me lose some extra poundage

That's pretty low metabolic rate you got there... joe bloggs would have lost 10kg in the first month and been dead the end of the second on that input/output

Then again, that's less than 1hr of running. Any other activity during the day?

The average male is 5foot nine and should weigh about 65kg. 1200cal will trim anyone down but starve none. Energy will need to be rationed just like everything else.
Intense physical work should be avoided if possible Use brain power instead of brawn power.

sadly, us city folk are like that. Thats why i worry so much. If i am able to stay in my apartment, I will be blacking out my windows and the missus and I will be huddled in one room for most activities. We live in a 3 bed room apartment.
No food growing for the first 3-6 months. Will probably cycle to the nearby reservoir and nature reserve to harvest edibles. I can fish and get fresh water in the river next to the home.
Climbing the 10 floors up after each adventure out will be a pain though.
I am building a small library of nature and survival books. So minimally, the missus can read _those_ when the crap _does_ hit the fan. We're good for 2 weeks on canned food before we need to supplement the rice and canned food with fish and vege from the wild.
But that said, I should really plan the first 3 months schedule for the both of us so we don't go crazy. naturally, its a guideline rather than an actual schedule. gotta leave room for contingencies.

Sure australia's average is 5'9 high but 85kg heavy.
I didn't say australias average male, I said an average male who is 6ft and 80kg as each metabolism is slightly different.
Regardless, if you have 10years of food but ration people to 1200cal a day they will either cheat, steal or kill you

I wonder what levels of activity/ energy expenditure where of the volunteers in this study After shtf preppers are going to be very very busy and active On one hand I don't think we will have time to get depressed withdrawn etc but on the other hand teotwawki will create a whole new level of psychological stress I just find being busy motivated and goal directed is much healthier even if you are hungry We are all going to loose weight and get fit!!!!

I think all plans will fail upon contact.
I do think that 1200 cal diet for the first 6 to 12 months is plausible and you can convince your party to live that way. Once you have to start working hard, 1200 cal diet based on stored food, supplemented by hunted, farmed and gathered food will bring it up to 1800 to 2000 cal.
Then you won't have a mutiny on your hands.
