I just got this game last night although I had known of it since before it came out! It is a really good survival game based on what civilians go through during war, so no zombies, no warfare etc In the game you have to care for the characters you are given to play with! You have to scavenge for food (hard to find), medicine (also really hard to find) and items! By about day 10 my characters were starting to get very hungry and depressed, the further this went the more risks I found I would take to get them food and meds, this eventually lead to the death of one of my characters on day 14! There are also moral choices you have to make like stealing, helping others (although I didnt get far enough for this part)! I found that by the time my characters were really badly off I was getting desperate to find the stuff they needed and so I chose to steal from some others just so I could beat the game (you know I had to keep my characters alive)! The game has been made so that you actually feel some of the emotion in making these choices, like stealing from an elderly couple made the characters even more depressed. It is based on the accounts of people who have lived through wars like Balkans and Syria etc I wonder how I would react in a real life shtf or are the choices I made in the game a reflection on what I really would do??? A great game to test yourself with! SOme reviews on the game!
1) If I had to sum up This War of Mine in one word, it would be "powerful". It is a touching reflection on the suffering caused by war, but through the eyes of civilians rather than soldiers. I actually showed it to a professor of mine who survived the Yugoslav Wars, including spending over three years inside besieged Sarajevo. He was caught there when the Siege started in April 1992 as he tried to help a friend flee the city and ended up being stuck there until 1996, and he has a number of... troubling... stories to tell about the Siege. He actually bought and played This War of Mine for a while and it made him so emotional that he started crying (and he is a very tough, "old school" sort of fellow). I think that pretty much sums up what this game is like, in my opinion.
As you have likely guessed, this game is not really "fun" by any standard, but you should play it anyway, I think.
2) Send Katia to scavenge the ‘Quite House’.
The preview says it has food and meds and isn’t dangerous.
Sounds like a good shout.
Turns out it was just an old couple living there, doing their thing.
Walk into house.
Old man begs me not to take their stuff coz his wife is sick.
Feel bad.
Take their stuff anyway.
Go home. Now Katia is depressed coz she robbed the old couple.
Try to get Emilia to comfort her.
Emilia is s*** at comforting.
Katia is suicidal.
I feel really bad.
Decide to go back and try to return their stuff.
Maybe I can give them this diamond I found.
Go back to the Quite House.
Can’t find old couple.
Go upstairs.
Old couple is dead.
Quit game.
Sit in corner contemplating what I’ve done.
3) Having a great night getting more and more resources, come back to our small humble grotto, excited to distribute food and repair everything, realize I left everyone sleeping. All our stocked food is gone, supplies needed for upgrades are gone. Hopes for future survival dashed. It's great 10/10 would tear up again
4) Really cool game. You won't be disappointed. I've logged so many hours and I just finally beat one story of the game. I've stolen, I've killed, I've cried, I've eaten rats, I've been shot in the back after saving a girl from getting ♥♥♥♥♥, and I've died again and again and again and again and again. But, I keep coming back.
5) Moments that gutpunch you, moments of relief, moments of gnawing dread... Misery as a computer game.

Yeah played it a while back, pretty brutal stuff. Not that a game could included a very likely element, though incredibly long periods of boredom would also take place.

How did you find playing it and at what point did you find you had to make some hard choices? How far in did you get, because I haven't got very far and already need a break from it?

I play this through Steam which does have an offline mode but you will still need to run it at least once online! I have been looking for an offline version for you but no luck yet but you can get this for mobile versions!
And Joey my last character is still going at day 21 although he is living on raw rat! Yay!! Although I am a bit cautious when scavenging! Have you been building stuff with the workbench etc?

I think you may have to connect to steam online and then when you have downloaded the games you want (And as long as they are updated) you can switch to offline mode and play the games offline! You can switch between online and offline mode! I am not sure how much data will be used while waiting for it to download though!
