Already buying with that in mind, bought another large bottle of powder yesterday. Have maybe 100kgs of wheel weights, more brass than I can poke a stick at and 1000s of store-bought projectiles. I see future restrictions of ammo purchases as a real possibility, some arsehole will put a wet finger in the air and decide that 25 rounds a month is more than enough. Yeah if I had the money I'd buy gold (or more likely silver) as well, but IMO that's what you do when you have EVERYTHING else and I'll never be in that situation

Cash is best in a depression, precious metals ifor rampant inflation! Agree...that said, cash will be completely useless in an TEOTWAWKI event and precious metals will likely retain some value for barter (maybe not as much as seeds and ammo).

I think cash will be useless in a TEOTWAWKI event, but only after a few days. For the first few days, we who are aware of the severity of the situation will be able to exchange cash for desired goods with those who don't see how serious things will be - especially if we offer more than the goods are worth (in terms of pre-crunch monetary values). There will always be the "she'll be right" attitude until things start shocking them into reality. Yes, yes, I know there are exceptions. But I see the likelihood of cash-at-hand being useful as much more likely than a TEOTWAWKI situation.

Apparently the big thing in the US is prepp planning to time a major SHTF/TEOTWAWKI scenario in the first 24 hours to max credit cards out buying ammo. Wouldn't work in an EMP situation, but something like a pandemic could work. A big risk, but if you are going all in...

Wouldn't work in an EMP situation, but something like a pandemic could work. A big risk, but if you are going all in... This is where it pays to get to know your local. Mine for example has the old manual facilities for credit cards but onlt uses them for customers they know. The other option is to get an 'account', again this may take time to develop the relationship but i know my local firearms dealer (who also happens to be a farm supply and feed place) wouldnt bat an eyelod if i came in, emptied his 12ga, 22lr and 303 as well as filled the trailer with pig food, chook food and the like. Mainly because i do that now every few months to make it seem like predictable behaviour. If you can make your behaviour seem normal, even if it is only normal for you, you stand a much better chance of being able to perform said actions without arousing suspicion after an event
