Australia actually has enough crude oil, light crude and gas to be totally independent in regard to fuel usage. The Roma oil and gas fields alone are huge in area and production capacity.

I think the problem would be more with storage and distribution rather than ramping up production.
Not sure about pipelines now in use, but imagine if everything went to domestic use, then it would mostly need to be distributed via trains and a fleet of trucks? Regardless if the capacity is there, there would have to be a lot of rationing in the short-term while these problems were worked out.

That is the question! But the Roma oil fields have a superior grade light crude which does not even require refining for use in diesel motors! It was at one stage being sold straight from the wells for 9 cents a liter, until someone opened their mouth and big brother came charging in and killed the operation. All that was required was a dual filter system on the trucks.
