Ive bought the creamed rice before but havent rotated through it quick enough and it does tend to caramelize if long time had passed. It can be eaten cold but if its older then I would use it heated.

Another reasonable density can and my personal favourite, Vanilla creamed rice (aldi brand $1 a piece) 1800kJ for a 430g can.
I just bought a bunch of these cans on a whim. There are heating instructions on the side of the can, but is the stuff any good cold? um... I didn't realise there were heating instructions. I eat them directly from the can. It's my favourite evening snack at the moment and I'll often have a can once the kids have gone to bed.
I discovered aldi about 6 weeks ago, bought my first 2 test cans then. I've since bought 2 boxes of 12 cans... I have 4 cans left.
So yeah, I think its good cold

Yeah I can't imagine it not being eaten for that long... how long are we talking before it 'caramelized' ??

I'll have to keep eating them diligently, keep the rotation going... I think I'd be hesitant if it changed colour. Have plenty of condensed milk & rice stockpiled, if it ever got to that could always make some fresh stuff

I'm a big guy, but have actively been losing weight, alternating between water fasting and 2,000-3,000 kj per day with the blessing and support of my doctor. I could continue to eat 2,500 kj per day for a year and be fine (in combination with a multivitamin and calcium supplement). Staying in this range ensures I remain in a state of mild ketosis, which suppresses appetite, yet I am able to walk 8-10 km a day, bicycle and play basketball to my heart's content.
Thus, right now I calculate that my family of three requires approximately 15,000 kj per day: 2,500 kj for me, 5,000 kj (1200 cals) for Ziggy's Mum and 6,000 kj (1,400 cals) for my daughter and 1,500 kj of flex
A 5kg bag of medium grain white rice has 18,000 cal or 75,600 kj. 2kg of black turtle beans has ~6,800 cal or 28,500 kj. This will feed my family for a week.
Most of my food buckets have 5kg of rice, 2kg of black turtle beans, and 2kg of corn meal or 2kg of pasta. Each bucket can sustain my family for 8-10 days or a week if I need extra calories.
I try to keep 3+ months of buckets and 3-9 months of other (canned, etc.) food.

Heck, I could write a list of the tuna varieties I have... An interesting note: just last night I tried some canned Red Salmon - which is considerably more expensive than pink salmon. I was seriously unimpressed, so I won't be adding any more of that to the pantry. Yes agreed, but it might be the way its prepared too. Pink salmon cans are the bomb, i throw the whole can less the water with the bones and all into a blender and mince the lot. Add some sweet mayo, salt and cracked pepper and your away for a patte that goes really well on toast.

Let's just move along and pretend this post never happened; I made an error in calculating the can volume vs the kJ per 100g. And this, people, is why you should never update your storage inventory at 4am when the kids wake you up. Dammit, this has been worrying me all day... 😂😂 if that's the biggest of your problems you are lucky 😉

Smashed it last night. Our midget sized food critic had no truck with it of course, but my wife and I hoovered it up. I think I might be stocking the pantry with a few more dozen of those.
