Those blue plastic drums (the ones that are about 1/3rd the size of a 44gal drum) seems like a good size to store a brick of ammo long life food, sealed water containers, fire kit, knife, basic shelter (poncho/hootchie) some rope and maybe a basic backpacks that you could use to carry it if you had to get out quick. But as mentioned, those in suburbia will have a problem with hiding anything of a larger size that is within reasonable walking distance.
