no gun nuts in that article, i'm surprised! The same article in the US would be different But yeah it's nice to see them portrayed as normal people. There have been a few stories like this lately, we'll be mainstream before long.

no gun nuts in that article, i'm surprised! Could be worse, they could class us all in the same shoe as this dude... Or that gasmask kid they interviewed in WA a couple years ago to class all preppers as nutty as that kid...

Considering the CFA, SES, Red Cross etc have been trying to push Aussies to have a "72-hour bag" (ie. a bug-out bag) ready at all times, maybe prepping will become more mainstream. Then again, most people probably figure that as they live in the cities, that they don't need one of these either.

A little while ago there was a Govt checklist encouraging people to have a 2 week Emergency supply in the event of a long term emergency. I'll try to hunt it down and re-post it here.

My missus always es and moans about the few cans of beef stew and baked beans in the cupboard, always ragging on about "they'll be expired before you eat them" so I guess this proves a point about stocking foods you normally eat anyway. At least I keep a ready stocked up supply of stuff to make spaghetti/lasagna, she doesn't complain when I buy 6-8 cans of that stuff because she knows we eat it regularly enough. One day soon enough, I'll invest in a bottling setup so I can start storing away ready spaghetti. I'm also glad we finally got a deep freezer so I can start bulking up on meats, maybe next time I go to the big smoke I'll find a discount butcher and buy a bit and bring my weaco with me to fill up with meat for the 200km trip back home

It's really sad! No way do I want prepping / survivalism to go too mainstream! For I fear if too much momentum gathers it will stifle the massive human die off required to bring everything back into sustainable, natural balance again!

And mine! Although, I was pleasantly surprised last week when she bought extra veg and meat a couple in preparation for the snowstorm that we just had, not to mention also asking me if we need to re-stock our toiletries cupboard as it looked a bit empty (of course I answered yes, without bothering to check what we had left; can't let an opportunity like that pass up by saying I needed to check first).

That's why in some regard the gun laws are beneficial. If you are prepared to jump through the hoops and legally acquire semi autos, particularly handguns, then you are way ahead of the sheeple who are too stupid or too lazy to give themselves the edge. Much better than having every dropkick metro armed with an assault rifle. I've given up now but I used to argue that line to preppers that want US-style gun laws here in Oz. Here about 1 in 20 people have guns (OK, in my area it's probably more like 1 in 2, but I'm talking averages over the country), so your chance of encountering one are reasonably slim. In the US it's about 1 in 1 . Yes as a US prepper you can have semi-auto long guns, but so can everyone else. I'm not happy that what I have is on an official record, but in general post SHTF I think we are better off in that regard than most Yanks.

Wait till you wife gets into prepping and then you house ends up looking like a hordes paradise, selves everywhere, all the beds in the house full of bottled goods and candles soaps etc.. The more people prep the better - most gov sites and recommendations are for 72hours. It prevents initial panic and rioting gives the real preppers a bit of time to set up bug location whether in or out. Most people have very short memories. I remember in port headland a cyclone came in and like an hour prior to landfall people are going to the shops and complaining there is no bread. Never mind the people who work in the shops also need to get home and get things ready.
