I love finding new uses for items that are different from their original purpose. And it makes sense both now and when SHTF.
Everything from using BBQ cabinets as mobile tool chests, to using a bicycle as a power source, to using shopping trolleys as animal traps - and then as a grill upon which the game can be cooked...
What are your best ideas - and please let us know if you've actually done it or if it's still a concept. Bonus points for photos...

I guess jars don't count, so probably I reuse wooden shipping boxes and turn them in to large garden pots. Just line them with plastic to protect them from moisture and then your good to go.

Well nearly everything I have is re purposed or made from salvage. The following are things I have in current use or have used in last few years.
20l square chem containers for chook laying boxes, chook waterers and self-filling food hoppers, an old trampoline frame lined with light shade cloth to stop my french beans from getting burnt, 200l clamp lid fruit puree drums for chook food bins, Dry ice for grain fumigant to stop weevils, 200l blue drums cut in half to make 100l pots for growing pineapples, railway line for fence posts, an off-cut of H girder for a boat anchor, oxy cart for a hand powered carry-all, old wheelie bin for a chaff bin, old windows to make solar drier/seedling raiser, car for drying fruit, BBQ grill made from stainless steel mesh from an old quarry crushing plant, the pressure vessel of a hot water system cut open to make a hood over my forge, washing machine carcasses for chook houses for mums with chicks. Rain tank with end cut out for a goat shelter. Mussel line floats for food troughs and outdoor hanging 'coocoon' chair. Wooden freight pallets for wind breaks around the veggie garden. Cable ties to secure joins on drip irrigation system instead of costly ratchet clamps.
I'll post some pics later if anyone has any specific requests.

Hubby is a Geo in the mines, the other day I heard him offloading form the Ute and went out to have a look. He had bought some core home from the drill rigs, really large heavy pieces. They are going to be garden edging. We have also used the outside of an old washing machine as a compost bin!

I haven't done much repurposing, but do a lot of re-using and recycling. For those still on facebook (hey, I'm under a false name and never do status updates ) it's worth getting on your local "buy nothing" group, which is good for offloading stuff and picking up odds and ends you might need. My most used recycled items are backpacks. I use them all the time, have a set of GHBs and BoBs (though admittedly only daypack size) and have never paid for a pack in about 20 years. Just one of those things everyone seems to want to give away, which is fine by me! Oh, and the "green waste collection" seasons here are what I look at as "next year's free firewood" season Sorry for the tangent... have had a few wines so just kind of typed whatever I was thinking about

The mylar bags for Robert Timms coffee bags: perfect for a snug fit to hold a single Bic lighter: Waterproof when resealed (even with a household iron), and Oxygen proof, so the ferro flint does not oxidise in long term storage.

Most of my plant pots have come from the rubbish other people have checked out. I usually chuck the soil and replace with my own, but did pick up a bag of unopened organic fertiliser a while back that have put to good use.
