1st support - yay - dead level. Preparing the foundations. Laying the pallets for the floor. Anyway, my mate arrives, and we discuss at length our plan of attack. With the 3.6m lengths of timber, I've nailed two together, six in total. On in each corner, and two as extra supports for the sloping roof. He decided it will be better to do the walls first, then roof, then the floor. as there is a slight slope, and it will be easier to do the floor last. I've started taking the top pieces of timber off each pallet, then re nailing them flush against each other - saves me having to put down an extra floor. It'll take a bit longer, but should be more solid, and still almost free with all the items I've acquired so far.

Well, after 4 months, I've finally got around to making the bol begin.
I took possession of an old caravan - it was an old beach van - after slowly towing it to where i was going to drop it, the A Frame decided to snap at the ball - a quick lift with a car jack, and a few pallets shoved underneath the frame as support, and there she sits. I'll try to upload photos later tonight.
It's a start anyway - after getting the van settled, it was planning and marking post holes. Next weekend will be blister weekend, digging out holes for the supports with the trusty crowbar into all the limestone rock. Can't wait.

. The start of the long, drawn out project - van in place permanently - just needs to be levelled, then the hard work starts.

. My front yard area-nice and open. The beam on the ground will be the length of the hut from off the van.

. My back yard - this area will be fenced off for a few fruit trees and a small raised garden. Once the roof is done and water collection completed, will run a small drip pipeline to the trees, more than likely on a battery powered timer. But that's further down the line.

Spent two great nights at my bol - jack hammered four holes - yes four - limestone there is really hard - one hole took two of us about 45min just to get about 20cm dowm.
Mate suggested we cut down She Oak and use them for the main supports - so we cemented three in. Next weekend will try at least to dig out the remaining five holes.
When I can work out my new phone I'll post some pics.

.Two poles in, more to follow. Got the roof lean at 3m, 2.7m, then 2.5m, which will run into guttering, then into water tanks at the rear.

the roof you are building also covers the van? given the tendency for old vans to leak. Or ... you could coat the van in pallet wrap. Its my new favorite construction material!

Roof covering the whole van - we'll probably build a verandah at the front too. Yeah, it does have a small leak already. It might be a consideration to build some sort of hot house using the plastic - that might be another experiment for later on.

Silicone. Lots and lots of silicone. I know a professional caravan manufacturer; he tells me that the amount of silicone used for leak prevention on even very high-quality caravans is unbelievable.

Two consumable hardware supplies everyone should stash: Silicone and Portland cement.
Oh ... and ... pallet wrap!

Now that the holes are all dug out, went out Friday night with the chainsaw and a goal in mind. Pfft!! Woke up Sat morning sick as a dog, barely able to drive home, weekend indoors. Oh well. On the bright side, did mark out and set up firing range at 25m, 50m & 100m. Next range will be 100m, 200m, & 300m. Next time

Got three more poles put in and concreted. Hard finding straight she oak long enough!
Decided we will also concrete the entire floor area - lay down a layer of rocks, then concrete over - going to be a busy summer.

Spent a profitable time at the bol - finally got all the support beams up, then started laying down rocks for the floor. Found another water source on the property-bore water tap into a trough, but the water is pure enough to drink straight out of the tap. That's two sources within 1 km of the bol. So after a long day toiling in the sun, sat down with an ice cold beer, and a wad of chewing tobacco listening to the cricket on the radio.
