We’re so excited to be giving you, your very own Long Term Food Storage Calculator. By simply inputting the number of adults (including children over 7) and children under 7 into the spreadsheet, you will automatically have a printout that tells you the quantities of Long Term Food Storage you will need to store. From there you can also put in prices and use it as an inventory tracker of what you have versus and what you still need … all in one place! foodstoragemadeeasy.net/2009/03/09/long-term-food-storage-calculator/

I made one of these myself back in 2006 to aid preparation during the run-up to the GFC then I thought everything would collapse in spectacular fashion. And then it somehow didn't ... so ... haven't used it since!
They are a good tool to have though.

I have an Excel worksheet somewhere on my PC that tells me how long my household could survive on the food we have stored. Unfortunately I've had too much on my mind for the past year or so to keep it up-to-date.

I just did a big clean out, and re-packing of one of my storage areas in the house - I desperately need this spreadsheet. I did have one when I started, but I got slack, then the Mrs dipped into it, didn't add items i bought.............................

This is the spreadsheet; obviously I've deleted quantities. I've based kJ requirements as higher than normal as 1) additional physical exertion will be likely WTSHTF, and 2) I'd rather err on the side of caution. Adjust this - as well as household members, food types, nutritional value, etc - to suit your own stores. The thing that surprised me the most is how quickly food stores will be consumed. It's a real wake-up call. Inventory.xlsx (78.02 KB)

I found the same thing. If you do the math accurately it turns out you need a lot more than you think; even to ride out a 3 month supply chain disruption. Happily, in my part of the world diet augmentation is easy.

As a small annex to this thread my daughter (who says she hates prepping so she keeps me around!) shops online at a local supermarket...the programme they use actually has a 'best used by date' application so if she buys something and hasnt reordered past that date it reminds her to get another one! Good marketting I thought and a handy reminder...they also prompt a copy of your last order in one colour and other goods youve ordered before in another colour; a good prompt for checking of stores at a glance...just marketting but handy if you dont fill out your spreadsheet, lol...

That sounds quite like the reason I stopped my Coles loyalty card thingy some years ago... I received emails pushing particular products we regularly bought, although over time the size of nappies for our children was increased. This is no longer marketing IMO; it's stalking.

If you look for a product online, look what ads you get on the pages you are on when you're online after that....stalking is damn right.

Happily, in my part of the world diet augmentation is easy. We only shop once a month at the most, sometimes only once every 2 months. We go through a lot less dry food than I would have thought, but that's because we use mostly meat, fruit, vegetables, bread and dairy products. Being able to augment your diet just with meat and some garden produce would have a huge impact on the amount of dried food you'd go through, pretty much doubling the amount of time you'd get out of it. I know it would for us!
