I've always claimed the whole ISIS / War on Terror / Middle East thing was BS for sheeple consumption and that China was the real threat, I got laughed at! Now let's see what happens!

What impact would war between China and the US (and it's allies, including Australia) have on the average person here? How can we prepare to reduce that impact on a personal level? Personally I think China needs us a lot more than we need them. Just about all our fuel comes from the South China sea (Singapore) _ most of our exports so economy will be stuffed. We have No cloths And a lot of industrial equipment, and electronic goods. If China decides they need Aus resources we have one hell of a fight on our hands. The problem with globalisation banking systems and flow of goods are all interlinked. For e. g. If a CME or high altitude nuke hit Aus there would be no replacement transformers, even the US can't build large transformers they have 6 month back order.

I'm with Spatial. Things will be tough for a good while when our supply chain is badly compromised. It won't just be us though ... Asia is the manufacturing centre for the world. Yes, plenty of stuff is made elsewhere but so much supply comes out of Asia that without it there will be global shortages of many, many things and corresponding price rises. It'll be hilarious when a single disposable razor costs a days wage. (Lucky I have a strait edge!)

Aus has a very positive food surplus. Survival is easy, thriving will be a problem. If diesel runs out.... Farming activity slows and transport to markets is problematic. Alternative fuel will be needed pronto.

I've watched "Red Dawn", "Red Dawn 2", and "Tomorrow When the War Began". I'll be fine!

So if it's inexpensive, it's made in Asia, and you need it, then you better stock up on it before it becomes scarce. I would imagine if fuel shortages make moving food from farm to city difficult, then having a retreat near where the food is grown is a good idea. Yes very true, but your question was what impact on the average Australian citizen. They nor the Government are stocked up on critical items, and don't live in rural areas. They then become the starving zombie masses that need to be dealt with.

All sugar will be diverted to making ethanol, as will grain usually destined for meat production at feedlots/piggeries and intensive poultry. The main thing is SA Hunter and I will be fine ... . We'll be eating crab and whiting and plenty of pasture fed lamb ... all within easy walking distance!

I can only do that for pasture fed horse ... or sparrow fed cat. Then it's straight to a shallow grave at the hands of the wife . I suppose they will make better transport than a meal anyway ... the horses that is. The cat is only good to skin and make fluffy underwear from. Lamb is at least 100m distant most of the year. Got eggs and fowl at 20 paces though.

CHINESE media is reporting President Xi Jinping has told his military commanders to “concentrate preparations for fighting a war” as tensions continue to grow over the future of the South China Sea and Taiwan. China Central Television presented a speech from President Xi, who earlier this year claimed the position in perpetuity, at the weekend — several days after it was made during a tour of Guangzhou province. The Chinese news follows a very basic formula - first ten minutes about how excellent Xi is, second ten minutes about how good China is and last ten minutes about how bad, evil, rundown and backward the rest of the world is. All Xi's speeches are broadcast now, with some being specially rebroadcast multiple times, with schoolkids etc made to watch them. His speeches about concentrating on prepping for war are both supposed to scare the Taiwanese, but also the middle- and top-brass who have been using their influence to take bribes, get mistresses etc and basically be completely unready for basic military fitness tests, let alone an invasion of Taiwan.
