I have one teenage daughter and another soon to be. As I have posted before while I am preparing for smaller short term disasters but I am also slowly preparing for something big and long-term. Short term we have stored a supply of various sanitary products used in our house, but for the longer term we have purchased a supply of washable / reusable pads. My oldest daughter tolerates my prepping and has inherited enough of paranoid genes to see it as sensible. And has a high level of climate change anxiety. So she saw the pile of reusable pads arrive, told us it was gross and she would never "use those" Her mum convinced her to try and now she is a covert and trying to convert her friends. She cannot believe how much more comfortable these are.

I'm in an Estrogen rich household myself but not game to suggest this concept. Might get some and put them in a shed just in case. Got a web link for the brand you got by any chance?

My wife is obsessively anti-waste/need to reuse things... She went to the cups last year and hasn't looked back.
Has saved us some money too... which is nice.

There are also undies that come with enough absorption to work that are even more comfortable than soft cloth pads. Look up modibodi.com.
I highly recommend cups and reusable pads to anyone willing to listen too.

Actually I have a little stockpile of PUL fabric, hemp terry and bamboo fabric (I prefer hemp) as well as snaps and a snap press, and both treadle and hand crank singer sewing machines. All set to make pads and nappies (diapers for those over the ocean) if the occasion arises. We have what we need but could be useful for barter or others and if no shtf the supplies can still be used.

Ummmm.... This is a ladies area of the forum. But it seems anyone can participate. So a couple small things that may be of interest or useful.
My Sweetie had an interest in homemade female products when she needed these items. But with a busy life at the time never got to follow up in the process of making these things and learning to use, and practicing with them. Now she has no need for these products anymore.
We do have a small stock pile of homemade cloth first aid items.. That is easy enough to do.
We have discussed the option of homemade cloth toilet paper. There is a significant history of this as late as WW2. I know Sweeties Nova Scotia relatives corresponding with other relatives in Scotland and this was mentioned.
We have a significant supply of paper toilet paper, but decided if or when things got bad enough that was depleted we would take the homemade, reusable option, but not until needed.

Do you make and sell press button cloth nappies now as a side-business? We bought about 24 of them for our firstborn and thought they were excellent. Just that bit quicker than folding and pinning a swan-skin cloth ... especially at night.

I do have a pattern that is very different that I have been meaning to put online for sale - it’s on “the list”. Insurance and other requirements for making products to sell for children/babies is not something I want to deal with. I taught a few nappy sewing workshops though, and use to have a website selling ones others made.

Legislated insurance is hastening the death of small business here. Its funny how 'big business' like the insurance industry is all for market regulation when it boosts their income.

I'm in an Estrogen rich household myself but not game to suggest this concept. Might get some and put them in a shed just in case. Got a web link for the brand you got by any chance? Lol present them to the women in your house as though you are bearing gifts, then duck and run once they've accepted the package 😂

I've been looking at the reusable pads and the undies but geez they are expensive! I have a tonne of modern cloth nappies saved tho (no more babies for me, I fixed that problem) but you never know who will need them. Plus they were free.....one of the few things I didn't pass on again after the last bub!

I actually have no idea what the reaction could be. I err on the side of caution given they all have radical PMT ... if it goes down poorly, I might end up like a daisy through a wood chipper.

@#$%^ There was a time when I lived in this kind of environment, and learned real fast than no matter how good the idea, let them think it was THERE idea or I would suffer the wrath of the cat pack.... Then if you said something to yourself like.... I think combat was safer.... There would be.. What the hell is that supposed to mean... And off we go for round 2.....
Life is so much better now that, even if you say something as simple as... pass the pepper... you don't get torn to shreds for one reason or another, or seemingly no reason.
