The tiny home movement is big in the USA and is growing here as well. Seems some people want a simpler life. Others for financial reasons, instead of burdening themselves with a huge mortgage. House prices in Melbourne are high, was looking at some small 2 or 3 bedroom house to rent when I move down there later, and was shocked at the weekly rent that is being advertised. When shtf, the off grid independent people hopefully will weather the changes better than those in a large city, as food/supplies are all mostly trucked in on a daily basis to top up store shelves. A good book on foraging and edible plants will be priceless in those days.
The only downside is if they need urgent medical treatment, for themselves or the child. Three hours or more of driving is a long time for a sick child.
