Grew up on a mostly rainforest acreage in QLD, the biggest security issue was pulling out weed plants that the neighbours tried to grow in our more inaccessible areas.
I remember naively asking my Dad why we didn't just call the police when it happened, and he told me that the police ran the local drug trade, and it was a sure fire way to go missing. The lowlands of the property backed onto cane farmer territory, and they were pretty rough. One of those neighbours ran dog fights from his "dog kennel" business. All the cane farmers grew tons of weed, the sugarcane was just a side business.

Rural areas have the longest response time and the crooks know it. For years the coppers have been telling farmers to store their firearms in the shed not in the house. Made them the perfect target for crooks. The coppers have a list of who owns what firearm and it has been repeatedly compromised. Crooks couldn't have a better shopping list.

Rural security will be a growth industry to which some of the newly unemployed may gravitate.
