"If you knew the economy was going to crash in two weeks, what would you do? This is a serious question."
I got this question in an email from a friend in Texas tonight - thought provoking question.
What would YOU do???

Judging by the great depression, whilst looting and crime will certainly skyrocket, I don't think it would get into a place of 'all out' SHTF. Rather, a decline of availability of goods and services and general un-affordability and hunger.
Inform Get my friends, neighbours, family in on the info about what's happening and give them all a list of the best food-stuffs and equipment to grab and how much. Two weeks notice is a HUGE amount of time and in terms of Opsec, you're in the same boat as them as far as they know. Word appropriately:
"Oh Jannet, with that stock market crash we just had, it's clear we're all headed for a place as bad or worse than the great depression! I really should have listened to my Grandfather about the potential of this, he remembered what it was actually like having no food, how the banks stole his money and then repossessed part of his farm. He did tell me about what you can never have enough of when you have little else though, I used to think of it is as just him being an old person, now I get what he had meant. What he suggested was.... "
Relocate As I'm renting and my income would probably diminish I would move in with family who already fully own house and land. Adds additional level of security and I have enough food for them in the shorter term anyhow.
Trade There's a good chance that my occupation, whilst more necessary then ever for people's mental health, wouldn't be as important to people as food, so betting income reduced. Wifes trade would become very relevant.
Distilling Get the still and components I've been thinking about - $600 Get a ton of sugar, 2kg of bakers yeast [can reuse so only really need 16g], a big box of citric acid, 40kgs of tomato paste. . even if it's in 2kg bags from coles - makes 1500 liters of vodka! Da comrade! Info Teaching people how to grow vegetables with no commercial fertiliser Rabbits Excellent food trade,
Food Oil - 50 liters of cooking oil - enough for a few years and hardest to store Plant out every area of garden rabbits - buy a heap of wire mesh [to burry into ground and make cages] and buy 12 females and 3 male rabbits which provides enough protein for 12 people every year and has enough genetic variation to keep the colony going indefinitely. Disease is a real issue in Australia, so every breeding animal gets a $3 inoculation. The bred rabbits may not be so lucky, though being caged they will tend to have fewer problems than in the wild but insect screening and potentially spraying is essential if inoculation is unavailable. Chickens - buy some for their eggs and potentially meat. Useful as 'tractors' to clear plots for replanting.
Security Mesh fence house, reinforce doors and roller shutter windows
Neighbourhood watch on steriods My families house is in an easily sectioned off hilly area, with adequate water and potentially more than enough land for growing food. Working with your neighbours, providing seed, knowledge and help where possible, which will add further layers of defence and as is shown throughout history, communities that work together are much more powerful than an individual effort. Of course I still would only trust my neighbours 'so' far, but I think it's an important point.

ss.. about relocation, in the depression the government passed a law that you can't be evicted in a time of financial hardship.. (just keep that in mind) to add to my original post (if possible) hunt down a old sail boat, refit, and in the first few weeks, get on the water lol
