Covid may not fix 'stupid' but it will ... fix 'snowflake' and 'depressive'. nahhh. Murphys law says lots of the healthy young adults moping at home and doing nothing much cos they don't have the energy to get a job will get through ok. And still be mooching off whatever family is left at the end of the year... Worse. They are going to breed. Each time there's been a major incident that has kept people at home, the birth rate spiked 9 months later. Watch for a big increase in births in December this year.

@spinifex the switch preserved the value of a component of my super and the aim will be to switch it back when the upswing is well established.

I must have had a premonition when I switched my super from growth to cash in the final quarter last year. At the time I wondered if I was being too conservative but I am mighty thankful now! Clearly we are in for significant loss of life and financial carnage at the national level. Where this is going globally .. if stability breaks down in the US we'll be on a new world stage. Either way it is goung to be a wakeup call, even today there are sheeple who dont recognise the vulnerability of pur system, even while they lament not being able to obtain ventolin and toilet paper. Its a shame CV doesnt fix stupid. So ... you're all in on 'deflation' and flying naked for 'inflation'? Or balanced in other ways? I can't decide which way things will go. I reckon banks and governments will do whatever it takes to ignite inflation. And will ultimately succeed spectacularly. So am staying in the shares game as a hedge. I'm really hoping for a huge real-estate/Ag land crash. If that happens its happy days for Spinifex. Im watching property prices in the near future as well especially in my old home state because i know a large portion of the amateur property investors that went big buying up down there driving the prices through the roof are heavily leveraged and relying on the $400/$500 a week rental return from their cashed up international students that rent their investment properties. welll it seems this might be a bit of a problem because suddenly the cash cow has dried up There an old saying and it goes like this for someone to win someone else has to lose

From an exec friend in water infrastructure: they have been briefed to expect 20 weeks total shelter in place.
Broken down into two phases: 10 weeks of SHTF and another 10 weeks of the virus burning out as it runs out of new hosts.

Anyone have any idea what is happening to our democracy and freedom. Anyone concerned how many of these new rules will stay with us when, or if, this is all over?
Who would have thought 2 months back that the states will be bordered off, decisions made at the drop of a hat without transparency, police stopping people in public (in their own cars).
This is a very slippery slope we’re on and it won’t take much to become an authoritarian state. Who would’ve thought that 2-3 months ago.....

Yep and judging by the newsclips the young millennial generation cops in NSW have taken to this with absolute Gusto! Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid!

There is no conspiracy here. The sooner we get back on the hamster wheel the better according to them.

At first we were all just told to stay home and to socially distance, but what happened? Bondi beach! People who came onto the country or who had been in contact with known cases were told to isolate for 14 days, but many didn’t. Even with people who had been tested and diagnosed positive, some wouldn’t stay in quarantine.
What were they meant to do?! It seems that unless there’s the risk of a huge fine many people don’t care if they’re increasing the risk of death to many others. I am glad that the fines etc have been introduced. In NSW the Police Minister has given the time that these will be lifted as 90 days and said he won’t be applying for an extension.
They seem to be mostly being very reasonable too - eg a group if men drinking together in public were asked to move on. All did except one so he was fined. Do what you’re meant to do!

Things had to be done and done quick to manage the current situation. I'm ok with that. But yeah ... I do wonder if the current event will be used as an excuse to tighten the control noose for the long run. See just what we're all willing to tolerate. Its a pretty good reason to microchip us all with RFID 'for public safety'. Keep tabs on who's vaccinated etc. Good reason to do away with cash and place our financial testicles snuggly in the hands of the banks for all time.

I suppose most folks already carry a phone which allows massively intrusive tracking as well as remote eavesdropping and image capture.
All the best livestock operators use RFID tags now to monitor the productivity of their animals and to guide breeding of improved lines.

And the government wants everyone to download a corona virus app... that's not suspicious at all

I usually only carry my phone when at work. My govt handlers must think I spend a lot of time at home.

Hey all, new to this forum I'm on the DDP forum where a member there mentioned ausprep. Awesome I can chat prep to my fellow Aussie prepper mates and chat about shit happening in the merry ol land of Oz.
There is no way! I have or will be downloading that app, just like I never signed up for my health record.

Now that the "curve" seems to have been flattened, and enough time has gone by many people are clamoring to get back to what ever there version of "normal" is.. This may not ever happen.. Too many predictions that the old "normal" is pretty much gone forever.. Another thread...
With this, so many countries, people wanting strait answers from China, reparations from China. There is a very distinct possibility China will clam up essentially telling the world, bugger off.. While many are busy trying to push China's buttons, Trump bashing, what ever it is they do, like said....
THIS IS OUR WINDOW TO RESUPPLY, REGROUP, and be READY for the NEXT event.. That SURELY IS COMING.. What will "the next event" be ?? ?? Another virus, re introduction of this virus ?? ?? Wave 2 from this virus release ?? ?? I have no idea.. But I'm sure there will be another event..
For Canada part it seems the liberals are intent on footing around China, WHO, UN and bashing Trump.. One day I foresee being in a position where Trump says something like.... Look Frenchie, you have not been a good neighbor and too damn close to be pulling the stunts you have lately.. And there will be consequences...
Looking at some history.. There is a lot about the Spanish Flu 1918-1920... But seemingly not that much about a recovery after..
Some history of the Irish Potato Famine may be more accurate to what may happen.. Short story, the famine was 1845, late 1850s.. By then enough population had died or left the country (not only left, but sent from the country) that it took close to 100 years to recover..
Today we are in for a MUCH longer haul on this than the Spanish Flu, depression, WW2 all totaled impacted the globe.. Post WW2 pulled the globe back to its feet.. Will there be WW3 over this ?? ?? Would the globe be able to recover from a WW3 ?? ?? Another thread..
My latest 5 cents of opinion..

I've been thinking, a thought to entertain regarding covid 19 I wonder if this is all a test to see how each country reacts, their strengths and weaknesses, how the public respond the whole shebang. The biostatistician folks have programmes that could simulate various disasters by just plugging in a few variables and watch the various outcomes, with very real accuracy.
Interesting, meanwhile it has me thinking this may only just be the beginning 🧐🤔
