I've always maintained the stance if you want to play medic then go be a medic There are plenty of jobs and volunteer positions that will give you 1st hand experience dealing with stress and busted people There's nothing playful about being a medic. There's nothing heroic about it either. It's an admirable duty. It seems we live in society abundant in snowflakes who are easily startled and confused and lack a proper sense of duty. I tend to find that we live in a society of people that don't want to get involved in things that don't involve them uness there is very little risk to themselves and there is some sort of award for it.

Many people film their good deeds to put on social media to raise their profile. What a pathetic society we have become.

It's a damned shame, I agree. No one should lose their loved ones. I wonder how many hero-complex people are floating around in that crowd not because they want to make a difference but because the mob mentality was too addictive. Frickin' glad that my biggest concern is having a stocked pantry in case everything goes tits up again with the virus. One thing that the gov found in South Africa during the apartheid years was that if you kill people or target individuals; you make a martyr out of them and the opposition grows stronger. The killing of the young veteran will do more to inspire that conservative than the other way round...

BLM and ANTIFA have not gone away either. One has to take into consideration that the Democratic party is not unified in any way, except they hate Trump. With Trump out of the way they will start infighting and become more violet to try and enforce their various agendas. The conservatives have also had enough and will also push back, and with very unpopular lockdowns and high unemployment - potential for escalation of violence is very high. Yesterday US employment figures came back with Private companies having shed 123k jobs in Dec 2020 against an expected 88k rise. www.aljazeera.com/economy/2021/1/6/dark-days-of-labour-market-us-firms-shed-jobs-as-covid-surges Private payrolls decreased by 123,000 jobs last month, the first decline since April, after increasing 304,000 in November. Economists polled by Reuters news agency had forecast private payrolls would rise by 88,000 in December.Correct. The most politically active Dems are the Sanders supporters and they are mighty pissed off at what the Dems did to him. In short, a couple of days prior to 'Super Tuesday', every Dem nominee dropped out and endorsed the 'establishment' candidate Joe Biden to prevent Sanders from winning the nomination at the Democratic convention, despite Sanders being far ahead up to that point.

None of us have a crystal ball and knows when the economy will tank. We do know that it will, based on all economies go up and down historically. I do know that with all the unrest and massive debt the US is taking on I have totally gotten out of the stock market and am just sitting out on the sidelines watching to see what happens. I’m not interested in long term growth at this point in my life so am more conservative than I would have been if in my thirties still. I guess I’m fortunate enough to have some investments built up that I can worry about. Even though I am greatful for being able to save and build some financial reserves I am smart enough to know that your skills are more important than money during hard times. I’ve been dirt poor at times in my life and managed to survive them before so imagine I could again. At least everyone here is wise enough to believe that prepping for the possibility of a major economic impact and that alone will give us all an edge over the masses.

doglover Im interested to hear your thoughts on how to preserve the value of your savings that you've pulled out of the market. I say that on the basis that cash holdings will devalue because of the insane money printing last year and no doubt even more this year. Albeit such discussion is better situated in a different thread to this one.

Watch Antifa vs prowd boys USA, very polarised society in the US. All it will take is some black Swan event for riots of a different nature, society breakdown and fighting each other.

Its EXACTLY what the social engineers want ... common people fighting among themselves. Both sides are moronic. Smurf the lot and make it OK for the silent majority to publicly identify them. If USA and Oz and Canada and Western Europe keep on like this ... we're all done. Strong, unified, Autocratic societies are in global ascendency and we're playfighting among ourselves like a basket of puppies. Working ourselves into a lather over social inclusion, individual identity and 'Kool Aid'. Emigration to Russia is looking strategically wise right now. Assuming Father Vlad remains in charge there ... keeping things together.

My knowledge of US cities is very elementary. My understanding of how it went down... Right wingers were gathering at a park which they had done for a few weeks in a row.; Then ANTIFA decide to hold a counter protest and burn a flag at the same location!!!!, brought in 'war' supplies in a mini-van which got toasted by the right wing.

Butt I like anarchy. It gives me greater freedom of 'expression'. The police said they were taking a hands off approach... Civil unrest is no longer a priority, where a woman in the US had her child taken away from her for not getting vaccinated. When the food prices go up and they are rapidly increasing it will be on like 'Donkey Kong'.

Interestingly - check out Idaho and Montana - where people can open carry last I checked - no red dots. Nevada also doing well, that one dot looks to be around Vegas which is not surprising with all the people who come over from Los Angeles. Thinking I live in a good area here in eastern WA state

Butt I like anarchy. It gives me greater freedom of 'expression'. Well ... move to South Africa or Somalia You'll be right in your element. You can live in a fortified retreat ... run patrols ... defend your property in fire fights. All that good stuff. Meanwhile ... the rest of us will stay here ... growing gardens, reading a good book, cuddling our partners, sending our kids safely off to school, going swimming at the beach ... without a constant fear someone is going to car-jack us, abduct our kids or try and burn us out of our home. Or ... and this is what worries me ... having a huge beligerent Nation send its military across our borders to 'Stabilise' the region. Or facilitate 'regime change'. I don't want an Australia so weak and disorganised it suffers the same fate as Iraq, Afstan, Vietnam etc. etc. We have a LOT of natural resources that our neighbours have a HUGE hard-on for. Given the chance ... they will try and take them by force and remove all opposition. For us ... there will be no dodgy front of Nation Building ... just ethnic cleansing. Our Diggers of old did not go out and suffer deeply (platitude alert!) "Fighting for our Country" ... so that we can have the "freedom" to do dumb shit and wreck our society. Some protests make a lot of sense ... most don't. And most don't ... because they are actually socially engineered manipulations of 'public opinion'.

I'd love a little 'action adventure' in the Third World, butt unfortunately there's no air travel for those dirty unvaxxed. I saw an add for a Pirate Cruise many years ago, sailing up and down the Somali coast with a bunch of ex Russian SF as onboard backup, enticing pirates to attack so you could indulge in some legalised slaughter. Was very interested in that, but way too expensive.
My biggest regret in life was I was born too late to join in the fun in the Congo or Rhodesia. My career adviser at school once asked what I wanted to be, I replied a mercenary. I even named my son after a fictional mercenary in a series of books I read as a teenager.
