Sooner or later China is going to realise that their list of friends is getting mighty short because of their recent spate of Protestantism and they will do one of two things.. Either they will realise they are in the corner and will step down or they will risk it all and throw the first stone militarily.

I think that they will never do anything to lose face. Option 2 it is.

I think this is a smart move by our Govt - we made a few calls, and now have support from Canada, USA, UK & NZ.
Glad we are not caving in to the bully up north.
Of course, they will cry foul and sound us out as the bad boys, and they are the innocent victims. I am concerned though for those living there who have family in Australia. I wonder if they will ever get out, or conveniently disappear.

This has been a topic of concern in our Aussie expat groups online. If it wasn't for COVID (and subsequent severe lack of flights), I reckon you would see Aussies leaving mainland China and HK in droves right about now. As it stands, one of my mates was able to get back to Aus a few week ago, but his wife and daughter had their flights changed and they are in China for at least another two weeks. My other mate has been trying to get flights for weeks, but the earliest he has seen enough tickets available for his family would be in late September. I've been looking for flights too, but have so far only seen one at the end of August. By the time I had clicked through and chosen prices etc, all tickets had gone. Looks like its going to be a long long summer for us here in China.

They be looking for retribution i reckon and any foreigners are likely first on the stretching rack. I don’t see an major armed conflict at this stage. Yes their behaviour is unpalatable and disruptive but really it’s not that bad, some tariffs, some arrests a couple of shitty aircraft carriers chugging around close to their shores. And anyway what did we expect from a communist authoritarian dictatorship. My dog could have seen this coming. If anything we should kick our own arses for being so bloody stupid to put all our eggs in one basket.

I would be getting the faark out asap! I would even rail and road travel overland to Nepalese or Indian border if permitted!

This is a mistake. It looks like a repeat of the boatlift out of Cuba that Carter did back in the 1980s. Cuba opened the jails and mental asylums and sent them to the US. If there are legitimate refugees from this, Taiwan is the place for them. Taiwan has already said they will take anyone from Hong Kong.

Maybe head to Mongolia and fly to Tokyo.

At what point will south east asia actually stand together against what China is doing. If they won't push back against china, we shouldn't do it for them.

Because they all hate each other lol That, and China's ships are a lot bigger and have bigger guns. As the article I posted above said that the Chinese "coast guard" ships are bigger then most other ships in the surrounding countries navies.

Happy to take them ... but yeah ... everyone needs to be passed through a fine sieve first to sift out the rabble. We have enough rabble here already here in Oz; most born and bred here it must be said.

Though I don't support mass immigration, on the refugee front, it's hard to argue that a HK family with assets should be granted residence over say a Syrian Christian who had their town and family decimated by muslim nutjobs.
