Wow, that is the Time Magazine koolaid edition! There seems to be a trend towards the overuse of the word social ... social this and social that... presumably to make socialism a less better pill to swallow when you reach the end of your glass of koolaid and it dawns on you that you've willingly invited socialism to stay..permanently.

The only time I want to be associated with the word 'social' is when the word 'anti' appears immediately before it.

I found it amusing that Harry & Meaghan are now experts in these things - but you are right - one day the "ism" will be added to the conversation, and everyone will nod their heads and follow.

Ted Kaczynski summed up our oversocialized societies well in his manifesto. Not a good role model, but the man was a smart cookie.

I take great pride in the fact that most of my extended family and associates identify me as one who dwells in the very upper reaches of the antisocial spectrum!
Do you hate people?
I don't hate them...I just feel better when they're not around.” ― Charles Bukowski, Barfly

@bloodmountain ... I couldn't find that book on Audible ?? 😉
Speaking of Audible, that was another account I cancelled recently and had the satisfaction of citing "censorship & free speech" as the reason for cancelletion during the exit survey.

Or just easier for the Alphabets to monitor?

Wow this is a new low for ausprep. Quoting terrorists to justify political positions. That wasnt my intention, there is no justification for what the unambomber did, he is a smart man who used his skills in the wrong way. If anything the book is a good read into the psyche of a deranged person who has some interesting outlooks on society be they right or wrong. What he did was aweful and no amount of intelligence can make up for that, please remember this.

Not glorifying him or anything, just something that I picked out that rings true in what we have been seeing for the last decade with shifts in social engineering and mob rule, not just here in Aust but in every capitalist based country, like Aust, USA, UK, etc. I knew nothing about Ted previously, but after I read through his manifesto, I was starting to think that this guy is educated. So I googled him and found out he is super smart -167 IQ, mathematics professor, national awards finalist etc, but just lost the plot and did what he did and is now paying the price.

The US government murdered more people at Waco than the Unabomber ever killed. Perhaps, to avoid this forum sinking any lower, we should refrain from quoting the President, FBI, Attorney General, BATF etc etc.

Wow this is a new low for ausprep. Quoting terrorists to justify political positions. My days... THIS. I disagree with many positions on this forum. I as always I'll fight for the right of others to be heard. I'm regularly sideways attacked with leftard, sheeple, libtard and any other insult you can come across because I believe in free medical care, protecting our weakest, and giving aid to those who need it. Even if they're drug users or 'dole bludgers'. I never insult conservatives, and try my best to be diplomatic when I disagree with someone because I respect the right to a differing opinion as highly as I respect my own right to have one. I disagree often and if I can't be polite about it I shut my damn trap and keep my nose out because I'm 100% in the minority here. If I want to engage with a community that is largely conservative I have to accept that there are some attitudes and behaviours that sit wrong with me and that's something that I choose to remain engaged with. But if agreeing to stand by and saying that it's ok to give oxygen to someone like Ted Kaczynsk on the premise that 'there's worse people out there'... No. That's not acceptable. There ARE worse people out there. They're in every level of government, business, and society because that's a part of humanity. But to minimise his acts on that very fact alone diminishes the lives that he took and the fear that he instilled. We are a prepping community. We are in a group of people who, for better or worse, are inclined towards suspicion and pushing back. So here's me pushing back. Extremists who murder innocents are the antithesis of everything that I am as a person and if you think it's acceptable to use the words of a terrorist to justify your viewpoint you need to rethink your life choices for one simple reason. There are HUNDREDS of famous people who have voiced the same quoted opinion over the years. WHY DID IT NEED TO BE THE UNABOMBER SPECIFICALLY THAT YOU PICKED TO QUOTE. Most of the 'successful' (sheesh to say it like that makes my skin crawl) terrorists had/have a high IQ and could be exceptionally socially devious. That's what makes them terrifying ffs. Take the psychotic terrorist idolisation (respect, appreciation, "I don't agree with him but he was a clever cookie" are you kidding me...) whatever you want to call it, and bin it. That ain't cool. For those of you who're for the first time seeing me angry in text this is STILL me being diplomatic. Over the last few years I've stood by and kept quiet on a multitude of topics but there's some things that I just won't sit by and stay quiet on. One of them is the protection of all of our right to have a space to discuss prepping. If you want to fight with me about whether or not old mate has the right to have this opinion, let's first have a discussion about key word searches and monitoring. What names and opinions do you reckon are the top of THAT little list? /endrant

The various Unabomber bomber based shows on Netflix have been pretty good entertainment over the last couple of years! While viewing I loved seeing him stick it to the US Feds over and over!! Oh shit, there goes my Fixated Persons Ranking again!

The Unabomber should never have become the Unabomber! He should've waited a decade or so and then uploaded his manifesto to the World by using the unfettered free speech avenues available to all through Social Media channels! (SARCASM).

So are you saying I idolise terrorists? Maybe you should read the book, its not banned material, yet. I'm saying that you've given space to that absolute PoS in your mind, and that combined with your 'clever cookie' comment tells me plenty. You use an intentionally infantilizing and minimising term to describe someone that risked the lives of many people and killed a few on top. His intent was terror. Seeking to reduce that and highlight instead his high IQ as if that should be the focus instead of what he did? Nope. Not havin' it. IDGAF if he's the smartest man to ever have existed. It's as bad as the 'He was a good guy, otherwise' argument for that bloke that murdered his ex and children by setting them on fire to excuse his behaviour! Intelligence, or otherwise normal behaviour doesn't excuse the atrocities that either one conducted. I'm fine with not reading his book. it seems unlike some, I don't already struggle with identifying the difference between "Woopsie, seems someone just got a bit caught up in the moment, but he was pretty smart!" and vicious, terroristic sub-human scumbag. I'm done with this thread. I've said my piece and made my opinion on the topic resoundingly clear for once instead of staying quiet so I won't be returning to it. There's no possible way that I would ever change my mind on my viewpoint, and recommending that I read the words of a dissociated psychopath to I don't know... understand his viewpoint or some such? Repugnant. Thanks but no thanks.

I dont wish to or want to (infantalize?), mimimize or excuse what the unabomber did and NEVER will, but i dont throw the baby out with the bathwater so to speak in terms of the book Industrial Society and its Future. The book he wrote delves into many truths surrounding modern industrial society we all live in, its just a shame it had to come from a deranged murderer with a high IQ. And by saying he has a high IQ doesnt negate the fact that he is evil, its just an unfortunate truth.

I gotta say the Forum does, from time to time, seem to get a bit too fixated voicing anti-socialism and falling into Left V Right arguments.
Just remember ... Australia from 1940's to the Early 80's was effectively a model Socialist State. Most big business and infrastructure was publicly owned and run by Government before privatisation. Power, water, railways, mines, sugar mills, the entire grain handling system, medical manufacturers. Many other industries that we hold dear were subsidised by Government to keep them alive: Car, truck and heavy machinery manufacturing, ship building, steel mills and large parts of the irrigated agriculture infrastructure. Some important parts of our every day lives: health and education especially, still are a model of Socialism which hands-down beats the alternative systems adopted by places like the US.
Time to learn the difference between 'Socialism' and 'Authoritarianism'.
From all the comments I see here ... its the Authoritarianism (both left and right and any place in-between) that people seem to ACTUALLY object to. Its definitely what I object to.
Left V Right is what the rich and powerful Authoritarians use as a TOOL to get the rest of us masses to fight with each other.
How about we DON'T fall for that play?
