So I come up from the basement to hear Sweetie cranking music on her computer....
So she is telling me "Country" Charlie Pride died today.. He was one of the greats.. We spent some time singing along to his music on you tube..
Later I plan to ambush her in the kitchen, dance her around a little one step left, 2 right while singing a bad version of "Kiss an Angle Good Morning" or as much of the words as I can make up as I go..
What are some of your favorites.. ??
+++
So I'm a bluegrass kind of guy.. Along with local folk and some older country from the Grand Ole Opry and the original Ryman Theater.. I've been on both those stages...
Canadians.... Gordon Lightfoot, Ian Tyson, Tom Connors, and such.. The bands... Monroe Crossing, Flamekeepers, The Fish Heads.. Toby Keith, Slim Dusty and a lot more..

CCR, The Eagles, Old country and some jazz.
Ah-ha.... Much younger listener..
My little peanut size brain will get distracted, mostly while I'm on the tractor.. With a 3 cylinder diesel it has a distinctive rhythm and I find myself thinking along with that beat.. No wonder I can't mow a strait line to save my life..
I like them, but don't care for CCR and others of that era anymore as hearing that I have trouble sleeping from events long ago and far away.. Enough said on that..

Almost any dance music from the 20's, 30's and 40's, rumba, especially the simplest dance of all, the foxtrot, cha cha's, beguines, 2 steps, even waltz's. Was a member of a dance group that met every week and danced to the music from 78 rpm records, played on a windup gramophone. Priceless days.

Like said... I have seen, follow several bluegrass bands that are somewhat local to the Lake Superior area on the Canada, US border.. Any one of them is good enough to be Nashville good..
Monroe Crossing, Fish Heads, Flame Keepers, The Rage...
Ran across a band that is as good as any of these, but no details about them.. Got to digging deeper to find out they are from Oslo Norway... Go figure..

I like them, but don't care for CCR and others of that era anymore as hearing that I have trouble sleeping from events long ago and far away.. Enough said on that.. If you think that's young music, I'm about to scare ya, grandad! I'm super weird when it comes to music. I can listen to just about anything and appreciate it APART from most rap, opera, and western. I can appreciate the skill of the artists, but I won't listen to them out of enjoyment. I can get down with country, depending on who the artist is. I love folk music from heaps of different cultures. I'm pretty partial to a solid 80s power ballad. I also really love CCR and a lot of music from that era. I'm removed enough in time (if not space) to still really enjoy the music but also appreciate the environment of the time to appreciate it's context. We had a joke when I was overseas. Top Gun album for when you're half way there and Forrest Gump album for when you get to where you're supposed to be. Thinking about it, no one joked about what you listened to on the way back. Anyway. What else, what else. Avi Kaplan has some tracks that rock my world, and Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence is ear-porn. I think ultimately it comes down to vocal ability for me. I'm not too phased on genre so long as the singer is skilled. I think that's why despite being probably a few decades younger than the average punter here I'm actively turned off by dance music and rap and all that 'young folk' stuff. Some of it I can listen to when I'm working out because like you, I just tune out to the beat. But if I want to relax, or energize myself, or FEEL something from the music it's definitely stuff with a bit more maturing under it's belt heh.

One time I went to a winter bluegrass weekend at a hotel.. Every floor, corner, that had room had 3-4-a dozen folding chairs for jams.. A jam would be going on, if someone left, someone would sit down and jam with the others.. The best one seemed to be a group of about 8-9 women in a jam.. Depending on the song there were up to about 5 or so that could do one of the most beautiful harmony I have ever heard.. There were maybe 30-40 people around them listening.. With the work shops, shows, and jams that ran from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon..
