Whilst farmers do this on a large and expensive scale ... it does demonstrate the usefulness of including a roll of builders plastic in your 'BO kit' if you intend to steam off into the wild and want to remain distant from known water sources where all kinds of people will congregate. I keep a couple of 10m X 2m rolls of heavy duty builders plastic sheet in my remote areas kit, packed in a 20L food bucket. Just 1mm of rain falling on each sheet will catch 20L of water from each sheet. These systems even catch water from dew. Folded in half with vegetation sandwiched between the layers it forms a large scale solar still. www.abc.net.au/news/rural/2020-06-20/water-harvesting-dam-helps-cleve-farmer-get-through-hard-times/12355538

And the community of Scotdesco has a really good system like this that supplies town water.
This is one application where plastic is the right material for the job. For most other applications plastic is bollocks.
