Collapse related stuff is popping pop in more and more mainstream websites, although maybe more in the US than Aus. I dunno if it's because the US is further down the road to collapse, or just because the consequences of COVID, economic downturn etc are more pronounced there and people are thinking about it more?

I think those in the US can see that their society is disintegrating even faster than others and are looking for ways out. I wouldn't call them preppers, but they seem to be becoming more concerned, even Mr. Trump has bought himself an island for $15 million. Obummer has also bought land somewhere, so the exit has started. Its probably to late for the average person to get up to speed with survival knowledge now, as property values soar in remote areas, and more people compete for the limited available land. Preserving skills and such take time to learn, as does collecting suitable manually operated equipment from op shops and tips, refurbishing it to make it operational again, and learning how to use it.

Bore: n. A person who talks when you wish them to listen. I was reading some comments on a US forum about the rural land prices going up. It has a lot to do with all the violence in the cities making people reconsider living in the big smoke, as well as with covid, a lot of people/companies have realised that they are can now successfully work remotely from the office so a lot of people/companies are now allowing it to continue, and combined with the Elon Musk global satellite internet starting to come online soon, it will mean that rural areas will start to have a decent internet connection to support remote city workers.

This quote caught my eye:
"While the narratives vary, each version of the coming collapse calls for tribalists to vanquish their enemies and assert their supremacy.[12] Tribalism is usually some mixture of ultra-conservative religious, racial, and nationalist ideology. Often, race, religion, and nationality are fused into a broader tribal identity."
I firmly believe this scenario is being actively engineered by people right at the very apex of wealth and power. The principal being as old as civilisation itself: Divide and Rule. While we fight amongst ourselves over the scraps, they'll be living a fine old life on their private islands with private armies.

"After a year like 2020, the number of people who consider themselves survivalists has risen dramatically.[4] Unlike most Americans, survivalists don’t assume their communities won’t be ravaged by pandemics or slammed by hurricanes, floods, droughts, or wildfires. They anticipate a time when we may not find food in the supermarkets, clean water in the faucets, electricity in the power lines, gas in the pumps, money in the ATMs, and medicine in the pharmacies and hospitals."This all happening in my area from early 2020 with cataclysmic fires, pestilence and like right up to now with a one in one hundred year flooding event currently playing out, landslides, inundation, bridge collapses and general destruction! All in a days work for a notorious Militant Survivalist! No mobile phone, no power, no landline, no internet, no road access, no rescue services, no cops, no utility repairmen, no supermarket stock, food shortages etc etc! We escaped early today by repairing the bridge ourselves! We'll be going back in to face it all again tonight after we've made sure our kids are surviving and thriving! PS My youngest daughter earlier this morning arranged for a canoe to take baby formula and other supplies to my oldest daughter who is cut off potentially for another week! Cops said "you can't do it" daughter's reply "why"? Cop response "eeerrr aaarrr, it's dangerous!" Daughter response "eeeerrrr aaarrr well no you can see it's totally under control!" My daughter told me "Dad it wasn't about our safety it was about him attempting to assert himself and gain control just for the sake of it"! Canoes, kayaks and surf skis are back delivering supplies and services to the cutoff community with cops not to be seen anywhere! SES and Volunteer Rescue are now there doing exactly the same stuff the "ordinary" citizens have been doing for days!!

Your youngest doing you proud, mate. Just need to get the oldest to keep more formula in the pantry. I had to send my girl a carton of pasta when the first covid panic buy happened. She still doesn't keep a lot in her pantry.
