This a little blurb I posted on a US/North American homesteading, frugal living forum we like and follow.. Hence the little bit of explanation how the system works to help others understand.. You likely understand much better... === === Yesterday, 2021-09-20, was the mid term national election day here in Canada....
So kind of the short version of why the liberals did this was to shake the greens, and other parties off there coat tail that they needed to kiss up to they needed to have a majority government...
So now it is said the election cost the tax payers $600 million or so for the liberals to come out virtually in the same spot of short of a majority vote, again needing to kiss up to someone to give them a majority... This for the THIRD TIME IN A ROW......
So the east with the population numbers to sway anything they choose, and the numbers of people on the dole of one kind or another depending on the government checks.. And the government depending on money from the cash cow west provinces....
What in the world is wrong with people ?? They just don't seem to get it.....

I don't understand WHY elections are so expensive and why we spend so much money on them. Seems to me an awful lot of money, I would be interested to see an accounting of exactly where that money went.

It's important enough that even folks around me are mentioning it, Tim. People have been noticing how... Strange... The whole thing is. I don't think we in Australia can claim to have any better of a system though! It's basically the same thing but with vegemite on it.

A proper democratic system should involve voting on the basic categories for how taxes are spent! (ie you allocate % of your taxes paid to: health, education, defence, social services, roads and public infrastructure etc) Leaders should have to come through a system of qualification as rigorous as being registered as a doctor of medicine.

I suspect a large part of that $600 mil is Govt advertising, designed not to look like blatant electioneering.

Tim. People have been noticing how... Strange... The whole thing is. I don't think we in Australia can claim to have any better of a system though! It's basically the same thing but with vegemite on it. === === Crykey Mate.... That would seem a very local acquired system to learn to live with... === === So how it stands at 16;00 Pacific time today the price predicted to be $610 million... The liberal party now has the lead, but no majority.. This has happened 3 of the last 4 elections.. Problem is the NDP party has enough seats to push either the liberals or conservatives over the top for a majority... Many knowledgeable political followers refer to the NDP here as "liberal light" Many considering there leader as bad for the country as the liberal leader... I'm not sure the time limit after the election it is required that parliament be called back..
And so the drama, and money drain continues...

So it was announced not long ago... The NDP (New Democratic Party), known as the Canadian Communist party at one time, has sided with the Liberals ...again... to make a majority.. This is always a costly alliance to the tax payers, one way or another.. And again, like said, the third time in a row lately...
And still..... $610 million or so later... I don't care how much maple syrup you put on this.. It is still a bitter thing to try to swallow...
Don't even get me started on the CBC... The things they said before and now after the election.. All while dipping there beaks in the average of $400 million a year government fund...
