The rich will be in deep doggie do do when the 'poor' and 'middle' classes wake up to the fact they are being used and call a halt to it. No more servants, that's gonna hurt 'em. "When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty.” I reckon this is just a fantasy of the lower classes. Similar to the fantasy people have when they say China is doomed because their population has been in decline for a few years.

I reckon this is just a fantasy of the lower classes. Similar to the fantasy people have when they say China is doomed because their population has been in decline for a few years. Demographics does make a difference. The pendulum swings - rich have been getting richer and the poor poorer - it will start swigging the other way, we have been stuck in the rut for a long time and cant see it. After the Black plague in Europe where up to 1/3 of Europeans fell. The farming peasants had choice of where to go work and better salaries, landlords went under. Japan now changing there long-term police and looking at brining in immigrants to fill employment gaps. Many of largest companies in the US are heavily invested in real estate, energy, pharmaceuticals, internet. The FANG stocks is what is keeping the internet alive. (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google). Food processing is done at only a hand full of mega factories. Walmart is the world's largest company by revenue, according to the Fortune Global 500 list in October 2022.. Now closing stores in many of the democratic held cities due to extensive crime. Billion dollar shopping maul in NYC just closed due to crime - some rich guys will be feeling the pain. ABANDONED STORES Haunting pics of empty $1b city mall plagued by theft epidemic as it plans to shut down only 10 years after it was built www.the-sun.com/news/10886613/fulton-centre-westfield-mall-homeless-empty-stores/Although the NYC retail center was celebrated by its ideators as a way to rehabilitate the busy area, the mall has fallen into disuse as several stores have ended their leases there. Eery photos of the empty mall show a handful of people walking around stores with no customers or even many employees. Black Plaguewww.britannica.com/event/Black-Death/Effects-and-significanceThe consequences of this violent catastrophe were many. A cessation of wars and a sudden slump in trade immediately followed but were only of short duration. A more lasting and serious consequence was the drastic reduction of the amount of land under cultivation, due to the deaths of so many labourers. This proved to be the ruin of many landowners. The shortage of labour compelled them to substitute wages or money rents in place of labour services in an effort to keep their tenants. There was also a general rise in wages for artisans and peasants. These changes brought a new fluidity to the hitherto rigid stratification of society.

I saw a short paragraph embedded in some other info that the US is now the worlds leading oil exporter.. Both Russia and the middle east reducing production.. My thinking being this is the cause of the high fuel prices in North America.. Facts, details, experience, thoughts ?? Australia did something similar with our massive gas reserves. We connected to the global market and now we pay huge amounts for gas. The criminals who approved this contract were never held accountable. We never negotiated a minimum amount to reserve for Australians and Australian businesses. Those businesses would be so much more competitive if they has access to cheaper gas. No doubt the big boys are doing the same to the US. Energy security should be top priority. We also make no profit from these contracts.

I reckon this is just a fantasy of the lower classes. It's pretty rare in history that rich folks get rolled by people below them on the ladder.
Normally they get rolled by up-and-comers who sometimes uses discontented average folks to to their bidding. Those up-and-comers then get to become Top-Dogs.
The French Revolution was followed by the Reign of Terror, hardly the utopia the working class had envisioned. Ditto communist revolutions. out with the exploitive aristocracy and in with the exploitive polit bureau’s. same, same.

Agreed. In the rare cases that it does happen, it's a genous, united society doing it. The wealthy have made sure that no western nation has this anymore.

In the US, a lot of the mega corps and investment funds like blackrock and vanguard are buying up whole suburbs and becoming mega landlords and fixing the rental prices in their favour.

I suggest as preppers, we wean ourselves from oil and onto either electric (solar) power, or make your own fuel (alcohol or wood gas). That way you can truly be free from he tyranny of oil, and we all know the taps will be turned off WTSHTF, so to get ready now is being wise.
I suddenly got it: preppers exist because the rest of us are critically underprepared.

If a third world rebel group in one location can disrupt global shipping, imagine what happens to the fuel supply after the first time a chinese submarine torpedoes an oil tanker.

In the US, a lot of the mega corps and investment funds like blackrock and vanguard are buying up whole suburbs and becoming mega landlords and fixing the rental prices in their favour. Yes Blackrock made a monumental bet on US house and real-estate prices going up, if another 2008 crash occurs and prices go down they will be broke. Commercial and industrial real- estate is in early stages of crashing - big office blocks being sold off at big losses. Blackrock share price is down almost 7% over the last 12 months. Blackrock made a bet that there wont be another financial crash in our lifetimes (Janet Yellen) prices would continue to go up. They are at risk. Blackrock being a financial company with lots of assets bought up houses like mad and were able to do it with lower interest rates that the man in the street gets. Rates are now up and US house prices not looking good. Housing not doing so well in the US, despite desperate need to house immigrants. The last week stocks being going down as it all depends on US gov dropping rates, but inflation still coming in hot... www.census.gov/construction/nrc/current/index.html

Reflecting on my travels. Home safe and sound. A significant chunk of my work requires long haul travel. Literally flying over Iran - in fact Flightradar 24 had me literally over Isfahan - when Israel starting bombing the place. That is to close for comfort!! But better still was the apocalypse that was Dubai - the media (I dont think) - have truely showed how bad things were there. Getting back to normal, but talking to some locals it has been devestating. I always travel with a decent first aid kid and an EDC kit with me, and some more things in my checked baggage. But felt a very long way from home this time. I need to decide if long-haul travel is over for me, the problem is it pays very well........ but I didnt like getting caught like this. I prep to what I consider to be "reasonable worst case" scenarios - and I have WW3 on that list....

Not a good place to be flying over mate. The fog of war is settling in over there and anything could happen. Is there a scenic route to your destination? it might be a good option to divert around that hell hole.

I prep to what I consider to be "reasonable worst case" scenarios - and I have WW3 on that list.... Good to hear you're home! And yes, you're definitely right. The world atmosphere is somewhat sketchy at best at the moment, both politically and environmentally. Dubai is chaos. I remember being there during a rain storm a few years back and it felt like someone had taken a minor ocean, flipped it, and set it right above us to dump down in one big go. It was intense enough as it was and that was normal weather for them at that time of year. It was just the regular weather for a few days so to have TWO YEARS worth of that over one day? Yikes! But I think if travelling were a necessity for my work right now I'd be actively trying to reduce that. Careers are a tricky thing to navigate though. I don't envy that tangle to figure out. The golden handcuffs can be a dangerous situation to deal with if you don't have any way to pivot to something else if things get hairy. Given your field I suspect it wouldn't be too hard to pick up work onshore if the electric boogaloo kicks off but better to have it planned before needing the option. That being said, welcome home!

Dubai runs on slave labour. It is as if all the things wrong with this world were concentrated in one city. The sooner that place dies the better.
