I had a look Gray. All built out, and the new house looks about 15 years plus.

Of course any could be trained beyond the current job so I have to assume there is nothing more. Age would be more info req. the aircraft specialist might be 20 yo just finished apprenticeship and knows only how to change the tyres or he may have served in military when rolls Royce was a massive plane engine and be able to make a tigermoth with a can of paint and balsa wood. I know rambling now. No offence to 20 yo apprentices.

Same for me except I take 9 instead of 8 as crypto logic tech is a us navy designation ( wiki) and sanding is least trained of the manual handlers.

Out of milk, oh look there's UHT milk there. Out of toilet paper, oh look we have toilet paper. Out of fruit, oh look, there's some tinned fruit. ... happens weekly. The trick is remembering to resupply. Milk and toilet paper are the two items we have going well. I was learning about Japanese social and history issues and can across what they called the Oil shock? I can't remember why but the Saudis had bumped up oil really high. Apparently toilet paper used a lot of oil energy to produce and was one of the first items to disappear and it was the shortage that hit home to most of the people in the report. I always have a minimum of two large packs unopened and 20 rolls in with the porta loo bucket. I have a tantrum when we have not replaced as we open. milk is purchased as uht only and a couple per shopping trip. Milk has its own cup holds about 60 litres but we use a take from right replace to left and rotate really well and has a minimum of 30 litres. Plus we have stored powered milk in shed but not well rotated. If only the management of all our preps was as good as the milk and dunny paper!

Changed my mind. I would go all smokes for trade. I remember what I would go through to get a smoke in hard times before. Anything.... I reckon they would be gone quick and fools will give up useful items for a quick nicotine fix.

I would have enough of provisions etc. so I would go straight for barter items and cigarettes would be top item. At least half on smokes. Quarter on canned goods of various tradable contents and quarter on grog.

I really like to use the mallee root charcoal for spit and general outside cooking with a few heat beads in the mix to give it longevity.

I think the purchase of big ticket items is to try and preserve the value of their money. So a luxury car will be worth a lot more tomorrow in roubles. The purchase of day to day items in realistic quantities would be boring for the press. I hope they have learned from the punishing past and have already looked to the important goods. Although with winter hitting now at least oil for heating will be cheaper. Or not as the case maybe.

Matilda, you made so many different points and could not find one I disagreed with. In an earlier incarnation, I worked with youth in state run residential programs. The main issues were mainly caused by the points you raised.

I grew up on the Mornington Pen, dairy farm near Tyab but we left when I was about 4. Too cold for me now though BTW, if anyone knows of the Minns family, I'd love to get in touch again. The only old local family I know of are the "agar" family. If you have an address I can drive by and see if there are names around on fences etc.

I don't understand it all and there are far too many dots for me to connect but it sounds very bad. May just go and get a little cash out as one dot I did understand was trading in USD is the main if not only reason USA can keep printing and if Russia and BRIC can trade outside the USD then mayhem could follow.

But I must put in, my biggest fear is a low level war started by sleeper jihadist cells, importing through diplomatic immunity to embassy's chemical, biological or nuclear weaponry and setting it off in populated areas in western countries in so called "lone wolf" attacks. then Islamic countries joining isis type groups and blockading shipping lanes, sues canal, south china sea, etc, thus cutting off global trade, making countries more isolated, thus damaging global economics. Remembering that up to 60% of muslims agree with the overall goals of isis, which gives us an potential enemy force of over 800 million people, doing all levels of attacks, either by supporting them behind the scenes, hiding jihadists, covering for them in the media (got nothing to do with islam, what they did goes against islam [without quoting Islamic texts], we believe in peace [Islamic peace means, when everyone is of the same sect of islam, until then its a house or war {dar al haram}]) or doing single or multiple person attacks. Anyhow, that's my thoughts on that subject. This is my fear also. The high level terrorism bringing on global unrest/war and the economic carnage; human tragedy which follows like night and day. How is a person who is fed information on a never needs to know basis, ever going to know what is really happening. The less than trustworthy media move on from one topic to the next and we are left to search out information after their short attention span has move to the next world crisis.
