The MG3
Er ... Just realised its not a bolt action. But it sure is nice.
The original MG42 rates as best MG ever as measured by body count. Pity they don't show a barrel change in the clip.

Got a good harvest of beans and young daikon this weekend. The latter being 10cm long and about 25mm diameter thinnings. First Mammoth Melting snow peas being picked now and heaps of flowers coming on - the plants are 5ft high and running out of trellis. The Greenfeast peas are all flowering well and first flush of pods are filling up - I'm hoping they set pods all the way into june. Plenty of fresh coriander, basil and mint being harvested. Picked what must be the last of the asian eggplant fruits. Plants still flowering but I doubt they can set fruit in the cooler weather.
Got some new zucchini and cucumber seedlings coming along in the greenhouse. Not sure if they'll do any good.
Had a really poor year for tomatoes this year. Worst in 15 years.
Spud plants are now a foot high and have blotted out the radishes that were sown along the edge of the plot.
Broad beans going in this weekend and that'll be the end of planting until early september when the next crops of beans and tomatoes get sown.

Another interesting doco/propaganda.
Not interested in what they say ... just look at how they live and the stuff in the backgound of footage. Quite a few pointers for how to live in a shit-storm.

I thought I'd experienced some weird shit in strange places ... but this is a level up!

The dome hut has survived a year. Only damage is minor, the whole structure remains perfectly dry inside. A good design; and I see why Advoko settled on it for his structure. I have thought of some simple improvements to its construction to make it even better.
After a spot of lunch with a nice fire we moved on to visit the box hut. That was an abject fail. It seems it is a poor shape for pallet wrap to adhere tightly to and retain its integrity. We removed the plastic cover but left the frame.
Looking to use my practical discoveries from these experimental units to build a nice big dome hut at an entirely new location - the eagles nest. As name would suggest, the new location has outstanding views. I'm going to spray the top of the new dome with a light dusting of matt black and drab green paint to make it less visible from the air and attach an exterior camo curtain which can be raised and lowered to let in light or conceal the structure.

I wish I owned a Russian Dacha in Siberia or an Estancia in Patagonia plus have a million US Dollars in the bank now that's a retirement plan! There's not much standing in the way of Part A of your ideal plan.
I got an uncle who lives in a walled rural villa in the Philippines. Filipino wife, one grown up kid, two staff, fully self sufficient in livestock and fruit and veg. Big-ass security. All that paid for with his Dutch Railways super plan after working for 40 years in middle management. He's been there since the early 2000's. I always wondered if he'd go back to Europe when he got real old ... but not so far. He's still there and now in his late 70's.

A damn fine bit of country in the summer. Wouldn't like to see it in winter. Although his cabin would be a good place to hole up through the months of frigid darkness.

I was 18 months in operations in far northern Namibia. Brings back some memories. Yep. Was thinking of you when I watched it.

What I like most about this guy is he is not preparing for anything. He's just experimenting with living a very simple, low impact, low resource and high skill lifestyle.
I wonder if he even takes a firearm when he goes out there?

There has been a lack of bulk carriers loading grain at the regional terminal here. Usually there is at least one ship at the warf loading at any given time plus a few anchored off-shore waiting to take a load. Now they are nowhere in sight. Some folks somewhere (likely the ME) are going to be short on food if the ships are not bringing them their usual grain deliveries. Update: Turns out our port passed the 1 million ton loading mark for the season. Shipping looks normal again with carriers anchored off-shore waiting to load.

Holy cow. That's different.
The mind boggles how that is even possible. The forward contracting system in the US oil market must be 100% shenanigans driven.

I'm still wondering where the power comes from. And can it be scaled up? I can see it as the future of mining where lots of activity is happening in a small area but not so sure about farms.

Do we have solar powered trucks and tractors yet? The underground mining fleets are apparently going electric. If I remember correctly, Fortescue is going to electrify all their underground vehicles over the next couple of years. Although, then again, with the price of oil as low as it is now, they may hold off on that idea for a while. Interesting. Wheres the power coming from?

I put this up for one reason. Look at the number of views! Yes. Over 1 billion. This is why I fear for the future.
