So I was inspired by Pauls post in www.ausprep.com/post/17832/thread regarding keeping rat traps in your BOB, what a great idea I thought, that lead me to wanting to see if there is anything special you need to know in preparing them. This link shows a rat being killed (In one chop with a cleaver) skinned and gutted. It's not that gory but figured i'd offer you all a choice whether to open it or not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRIntU0WnO4
So now I ask you all the question, what are you willing to eat? there has been some discussion about tasty insects too. www.ausprep.com/thread/1490/tasty-insects

In order to live and not die? I'd pretty much eat anything that was going to be of benefit.I hope to prepared enough to not have to resort to rats etc, but I would if I had to.

I'd eat damn well almost anything. Doesn't mean I have to WANT to. Lol. Yes I'm including humans on that list. (Though never eat the brains, they are a major source of prion related illnesses and deaths. For those who don't know, think the human version of mcd. It's rife in pacific cannibal cultures. And no cooking doesn't kill prions )

I would give nearly anything a crack as long as I cooked it well. The wife on the other hand, well she will starve for a while until she realised the kids and I were not dieing. Nearly all of my friend that pop over to vist end upeating something from my back yard, mainly edible weeds of some kind, I have done up my own booklet of what weeds I have in my yard so I know what they look like all year round, I also know what they are good for as most are also medicinal. It took quite awhile before the wife came around but she has tasted them all now. and all she every says is yuk. but she still eats it.

If there is something on the menu, or what passes for a menu where ever I may be, that I haven't eaten before... I've got to try it. A bloke I went shooting with once from another forum offered to bring some fox for me to try after he mentioned eating it in a post. Got to eat everything once I guess, but that was the worst. He did a good job cooking it, but an animal with a diet like a fox is never gonna taste lovely.

www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/prions/this is the list of actual diseases. and exactly, theyre technically unkillable as yet. thus avoid the brains if you ever are required to eat humans or animals where you dont know how healthy they are.

Crocodile is weird: not fish but soft like fish... not bad though, yeh! I liked emu ... on my 30th I told everyone we were going to eat the coat of arms: ha, good night!! Kangaroo seems to have improved.... maybe it was the price we paid for it ;>

Kangaroo is not bad, emu I found to oily! Have tried frogs legs, just crunchy really as they were deep fried! Pigeon is quite nice! We have some camel burgers in the freezer that I haven't as yet tried.
