While many US folks store their preps in underground cellars/basements/tornado shelters etc, here in Oz we have far fewer houses which present those options. Many of us have to rely on keeping our stores in the garage or garden shed.
With summer just around the corner, what measures, if any, do members take to minimise the effect of extreme heat on food stored in these places?

Have a double garage built in to the house, with concrete floor. Store stuff in there - if too hot, will move everything into the house - not ideal, but you go with what you have.

I'm hoping to create a trapdoor to the crawlspace under the house. That should be the coolest place available.

I can literally walk around under my house, it is semi closed off (Closed off from people anyway) once my father in law gets his stuff out of there I can continue excavating it and get my paving stones back down. It is always cooler under the house and good airflow too.

We are using a misting fan at the moment but we were thinking of turning the room into a large Coolgardie cooler by putting hessian sack up at the windows and rigging up a drip hose and solar pump. Have not had time so went for the misting fan which should hopefully run of portable solar panels if needed.

I store a lot of food stuff in old chest freezers, must have good seals and still need to kept as cool as possible. Luckily I have a big shed with good air flow and high roof. The use of the crawl space is a good idea, we are expecting 38-40 degrees this weekend so I will be measuring the crawl space temperature and see how it compares to the freezer temp.

At this stage I don't keep any food items in the shed mainly due to the heat and possibility of pests. Our shed tends to cook in summer and freeze in winter so don't really want to expose long life food to the huge changes in temp. Most stuff is kept in the regular pantry or cupboards in the backroom which is pretty well insulated.
In my next shed I am planning on building an insulated room within the shed, kind of a man-cave within a man-cave.

We do have the option (unless in a high water table area), but it's just not common. If I was to build the dream home, it would definitely have an underground cellar.
