I have been reading more and more the last couple of days about various triggers for another recession, now i have been prepping for a while and can safely say that we will be ok for any short-medium term local disaster, but for longer term i really need to buy a house, and i think it needs to be within the next 12 months, even if it is only a little 1/4 acre block, as I need to be able to perform changes to the house and yard to encourage more self sufficiency (large vegie gardens, fruit trees, water tanks, solar) which i cant do while renting. I have been pumping to much money into preps as well as other interests and have now decided that this needs to stop and after I finish paying for the missus first firearm, it will be all hands on deck for a new place. We threw all our savings into the business when we moved from Perth and while we are slowly making that up, IT is not a neccessity and another GFC will see a massive dowturn in my workload and it will be a lot easier to pay a $150k mortgage than the current $320 a week rent. Accorsing to the numbers, interest rates will need to reach 10.6% for me to be paying the same amount as i pay rent now.
The good thing is around here a house only costs about 100-150k for a nice little 3x1 on a quarter acreish block.
This isnt really a question, or anything other then me putting down my thoughts, I just felt the need to write it down as a way of solidifying my intent to myself.
Cheers Reth

All my friends have just bought or are building houses. While I don't see myself buying soon, I'm sinking a lot of my pay into saving for a house.
I live with my parents, renting would be worse and more expensive.

Wish homes were only 100-150k around here! They are atleast double that for a semi decent 3 bed 1 bath home here.

Mate bought a house suburb over from me for 600k... I'm never gonna be able to live where my parents do but those blocks are too small anyway.

We are working on saving for a block and house, but on a pension it takes much longer, especially as I cannot work and wife can't work as she has to look after me.
This is why lists, budgets and more lists are so important for preppers. Oh and sticking to said lists and budgets LOL.
