I was wondering what consequences would follow a financial hiccup, what may be in short supply etc. I began looking at pantry products. To my surprise ( I should not have been) aldi food wrap and alfoil are made in China. So I went to Coles and all of their brands were all made in China and at least twice the aldi price. I Decided to increase my standard stock of alfoil

Good thinking, having simple things like that might make a real difference.

Bulk Foil was on special in ALDI a week or so back, along with cling wrap. It was 150metres for around $12.00. I'm hoping there is some left because foil is one item that would be very useful especially in cooking. There are plans on youtube for a basic solar cooker using foil. Costco sell it in bulk but their width is about 1 metre wide, not sure of the length but I think it's around $30.

It is amazing how many items are made in China (or anywhere overseas) once you start looking at them. Everyday things that we use and don't think about we rely on other countries to make. Good work Fractus, thanks for the reminder

Meanwhile, Aldi's opening in Perth is being delayed by dickhead bureaucrats in a couple of councils. It's a very rare thing for me to drop a c-bomb, but these council s-bomb idiots really do give me the f-bomb reason to do so.

Aldi is giving coles and Woolies a run for their money in the eastern states. The savings are huge as I am trying and buying their products as I wean ourselves off brands at the two biggies and replacing them with Aldi brands. ie, Sultana Bran at Woolies - $5.50 (420g) at Aldi nearly the same packaging but called Bran & Sultanas ( or something like that) $3.49. You cannot taste the difference. Nutri Grain around $6.00 - but called Nuts and bolts - similar packaging and more malty in flavour. $3.49.
All their toiletries are much cheaper. For as long as I can remember we have used Palmolive soap but it is getting so small and doesn't seem to lather. Tried the boxed pink ones (5 in pack around $2) and love it! Lathers and lasts a lot longer. Flour, sugar, rice are 1/2 price. I buy their tinned Australian tomatoes every week for preps 79c. I was a bit disappointed in their fruit and veg as it seemed not as good as the other two. But have recently learned that ALL produce is from Aussie farms and it does not go into cold storage for months like the other two. You can buy A2 milk there; the meat is good and is processed down near Wagga Wagga I believe for NSW. Their cheeses and dairy are wonderful and all local. AND I love their weekly special buys. Al ways something in there for your preps.

I am an Aldi shopper. Have to be wary of the quality of some of their 'specials' but in general they are pretty good and you get what you pay for. The food etc is generally cheaper then the big two supermarkets and is mostly pretty good.
