Most of you would have known, but recently i was affected by the NSW bushfire crisis. This got me thinking, whilst i was "somewhat" prepared, how many of us actually have a bushfire survival plan? Or for those affected by flooding, by quakes? Im talking outside of our SHTF scenarios and into everyday threats? On the NSW RFS site, i found a great little guide. Had to share it. www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/file_system/attachments/Attachment_BushFireSurvivalPlan.pdfWe also have a few posts here on the subject. Bushfires are our #1 threat over Summer. In December we were very close to evacuating our house, we didn't have BOBs, but we did have our bug-out boxes packed and in the car. We already had a plan of our essentials (these were already in boxes ready to go before the warm weather arrived) and then lists of items of varying priority depending on time and space requirements. Thankfully we didn't evacuate, once we had the house set-up to be proctected and the cars packed, I sat up all night monitoring the BOM, Vic Emergency websites aswell as the local conditions outside.
Our bags, boxes etc vary depending on the time of year. Summers we are very much prepped for fires and then storms as a second priority. Winters are storms, heavy rains and power outages.

Just goes to show that having some standby gear is beneficial, be it a BOB or just a go-box with some basic gear, like if you were preparing for a bushfire/cyclone etc evacuation.

Mentioned this news to the wife to try to get her to agree to my making up BOBs - she emptied the two previous ones when she decided she needed the backpacks (even though we have plenty of others), and demanded I stop wasting cash on stuff that'll never happen. She then pointed out that the only forest anywhere near us is on the other side of a 1km-wide river, so not much chance of a fire for us. When I brought up the fact that maybe we're safe from fires, but what about if the river floods, then the dismissive answer was along the lines of "we live on the tenth floor, so it doesn't matter". Unfortunately some people just won't listen to reason.
