I remember some rusting equipment at my Grandfathers farm that was steam belt driven. My dad remembers his Dad using them as they had no power. Personally today it would be better to just have a steam generator if you were going this way and run electrical items on it, though it's still a very cool vid about how things used to be done.

I used to work in shearing sheds and a lot of the stations I worked at had these setups except they had single cylinder Diesel engines Most of the machines ran of belt driven

Correct, all those belts and linkages would be a pain and you still couldn't run half the stuff you'd like to.
I've been thinking of getting/making a Stirling engine for a gennie. I probably never will but they appear to be lower tech then a steam engine.
