Biodegradable rubbish bags, do they store indefinitely if dry?
If buying I'd store the normal ones for cost and longevity however I can get degradable ones through work. Are the worth having?

Last time I left a 'biodegradable' Kmart shopping bag in a (paper) bin it started falling to pieces in 4-6 weeks, it probably depends what sort you are talking about though. There are actually different types of 'degradable' and 'biodegradable' with different triggers, including 'oxydegradable (i.e. break down in air) so ymmv?
also beware, they break down into bits but the bits are often still made of plastic, just treated so the bag disintegrates...

Is there way to test? Doesnt say on the bags or boxes?
Maybe just flick a bag out and leave in the air, fill one with water, wet one down but not fill and see which breaks down in how long?

How are they activated? My 'guess' it's UV light that starts them breaking down, aka in the packet they're fine.

All plastics bags breakdown even if under cover! Any oil product in contact with them will speed up the breakdown process. Sun makes it happens quicker. In a sealed airtight container they might be a lot slower to crumble.
